I direct a team of media relations and social media professionals for the largest state agency in Texas. My role includes serving as the official agency spokesperson, ensuring timely engagement with local, state and national journalists and guiding the press and social media teams on best practices. I also advise agency executives about emerging issues in the media environment. My team organizes and executes media engagement opportunities that highlight how HHSC serves millions of Texans everyday.

I created and managed the OIG Communications Team, which is responsible for the agency's internal and external communication. I served as the agency's primary media contact and spokesperson. Our team maintained the OIG website and digital media platforms and published the agency's external facing reports and work products. We also facilitated communication between the inspector general and critical stakeholders.

I developed, managed and implemented strategic communication and media relations initiatives and programs that drove awarness and recognition of clients’ brand. My efforts helped business growth and brand positioning in the community through general industry communications and marketing, brand promotion, and thought leadership development. I prepared senior executives to effectively connect with various constituencies, including members of the media. I also created and implemented marketing and social media initiatives, while ensuring that our clients’ mission, vision, and values were communicated to both internal and external constituencies.

In my role at The University of Texas at Austin’s Office of the President, I managed the flow of executive level communication between the president and internal and external constituents. My daily tasks ranged from simple information requests to crisis communication situations. I ensured that our office provided the public, students, faculty, staff and elected officials with accurate information consistent with the university’s core values.

I managed all of the agency’s internal and external communication strategies. I developed and implemented strategic communication and media relations initiatives and programs that drove awareness and recognition of the agency’s mission. I also created and implemented marketing and social media initiatives that connected the agency to its many constituencies including funders and community members. I partnered with the fund development team to ensure that high-level donors were graciously acknowledged. I led a large-scale effort to rebrand the agency, relaunch its website and expand its digital presence on social media platforms.

In this role, I managed newsroom personnel for Austin’s NPR affiliate and generated original story ideas. I assigned story coverage to reporters, assisted with the production of all newscasts and reported on general assignment stories.
