About James Batten
I am a first year PhD Chemistry student at the University of Birmingham. My research project focuses on the recycling of lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles, with current focus on graphite anodes. As the market for electric vehicles grows at a rapid pace the capacity for lithium-ion recycling must also grow. I am driven to be part of solution when it comes to sustainability and green aims for the future.Outside of my studies I work with Oppidan Education to provide a holistic approach to mentoring young people. Complementing my studies, mentoring provides a route to really impact lives of young people at a pivotal stage, pastorally and academically, promoting a rounded development.
