Since starting in Novenco Marine & Offshore's Oslo office in 2014, I have been working as a mechanical project engineer responsible for designing and delivering bespoke HVAC equipment to the offshore oil and gas industry.Projects I have been responsible for at Novenco include:- Designing Novenco's largest ever AHU equipment which was delivered to Statoil's Mariner field in the North Sea (https://www.novenco-marine.com/news/projects/novenco-breaking-record).- Shifting production from Novenco's original factory in Denmark to two new factories in Latvia and South Korea to reduce cost and increase efficiency (https://www.novenco-marine.com/news/corporate/workshop-in-latvia)- Redesign of existing Novenco designs to increase strength, reduce cost/weight, and improve the manufacturability.- Development of software that enables easy selection of complex equipment, and automatic generation of production documentation, vastly reducing the time taken to get to the production stage of a project.My time at Novenco has been split between office work at Novenco's Oslo office, and on-site work at various factories and shipyards around the world. A typical day in the office would include development of new designs through the use of 3D CAD modelling and FEA software, generating 2D production drawings, and creating other technical documentation. Examples of on-site work are: inspection of equipment at supplier factories, testing of new products at Novenco factories, installation supervision at client shipyards, etc.

Mechanical Project Engineer involved in several mining related work packages, e.g.: - Detailed design of two 2000 t/h overland mining ore conveyors. - Responsible for designing several glass-fused-to-steel tanks up to 2400m^3. - Responsible for heavy mechanical process equipment such as pump boxes, shaker table chutes, etc (e.g. design, drawings, other documentation, etc). - 3D model and 2D drawings of a 25 km long underground natural gas pipe network.Responsibilities: - Preparation of documentation required for mechanical equipment. Examples of documentation include scope of works, datasheets, specifications, etc. - Liaising with procurement department and/or suppliers regarding required equipment. - Ensure suitability and safety of designs by confirming code compliance, HAZOP meetings, etc. - Management of draughtsmen (internal and external to GBM) to obtain necessary drawings. - Drawing and design checks of equipment produced internally by GBM, as well as drawing/designs provided by sub contractors.

High temperature and pressure piping design including plant layout, pipe stress analysis, 3D modelling, 2D drawings, design verification, pipe support selection/design, material selection, equipment selection, design review (e.g. HAZOP) etc.Heavy engineering design (e.g. crane/lifting rigs, heat exchanger sizing), including calculations, FEA, code compliance.Creation of maintenance contracts, including tender selection.Failure diagnostics of mechanical equipment for insurance/legal purposes.On site installation/fabrication inspection.
