As a member of the UMN Sustainable Cropping Systems lab, I supported research and development efforts focused on new crops for high-efficiency and perennial agriculture systems as part of the broader Forever Green Initiative.I processed soil/crop residues, prepared research materials, and managed research plots relevant to 30+ individual experiments with 1-5 coworkers (supervisors and students) in order to maintain research plot conditions, complete data collection, and allow further research and analysis of samples. Specific tasks included performing DNA extractions, threshing grain, grinding biomass, sieving soil, root washing, NIR biomass quality testing, prepping and cleaning of research materials, data collection and research plot set-up, fertilizing, crop harvest, weeding, data entry, lab space organization/management, driving to/from research locations, and sorting, cleaning, weighing, and labeling of samples.
