I direct a MS Choir with kids who may not want to sing sometimes... and that's ok. My goal is to make a space for students to express themselves without fear of judgment or condemnation. My room is where kids can take a 15 minute break because they have a lot of really hard things going on and they just need to breath for a second. Life is hard and its even harder when you out-grow your shirts every 2 months and your face looks like a pizza. These things will pass, but the hurtful words and awkward interactions can scar a student long afterwards. Middle school is terrible, but I try to make it a little less terrible.My room is where students work hard and have fun while doing it. Its not perfect, but I learn everyday how to make it the best it can be for my students.
