About Jack Geoghegan

Currently completing the final year of my Doctoral candidacy at the University of Sydney's School of Aerosapce, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. My area of research focuses on the development of shape contour devices embedded in an aircraft's wing structure which are designed to alleviate the transmission of self-sustained shock wave oscillation under transonic flow conditions. This research began as a project funded by the Defense Science and Technology Group of Australia in expanding the understanding of the underlying physics and developing technologies to counter the detrimental effects that this phenomenon has on an aircraft's aerodynamic performance. Through my research I have developed skills in several areas, particularly:- Programming for data pre-/post-processing and data analysis in: MATLAB, Python, Bash & C- Computational Mesh Generation: Pointwise & ICEM CFD- Computational Fluids Solver: ANSYS Fluent, OpenFoam- Management and use of Operating Systems: Linux (Debian, RedHat, CentOS) & Microsoft Windows- HPC Cluster Operation/Management: Slurm, PBSI have a strong passion for all things Aerospace, particularly in Aerodynamics and Propulsion technologies, and enjoy both the computational components as well as the experimental and more "hands-on" parts of the industry.
