Under general supervision, operates boilers, operates turbine driven generators, chilled water production equipment, and associated auxiliaries. Coordinate power plant equipment operations with Utility Plant Operator II and Utility Plant Operator I personnel. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties of a Utility Plant Operator I and II. Operate electric and turbine driven chillers and turbine driven generators. Operate utility electrical line and medium voltage switchgear. Maintain a continuous steam supply to campus, using extraction steam from turbine generators or pressure reducing valves, as plant conditions require. Provide training and instructions to Utility Plant Operator I and Utility Plant Operator II personnel. Perform all the functional duties of plant operations in the absence of the Supervisor. Complete site-specific training program for Utility Plant Operator III, within assigned time period. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of OSHA regulations and the ability to comply with OSHA procedures. Knowledge of all major power plant systems and equipment. Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to maintain power plant equipment and building. Skill in the remote and local operation and adjustment of all plant equipment. Ability to make decisions under emergency conditions. Ability to interpret and record operating readings. Ability to read and understand blueprints and operating manuals. Ability to perform basic math computations. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to provide training and instruction in the operation of all major power plant equipment. Ability to direct the work of Utility Plant Operators.

Under general supervision, operate all plant auxiliary equipment and systems. Operate solid fuel boilers. Make rounds and record readings, throughout the plant, to monitor all plant equipment. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties of Utility Plant Operator I. Operate solid fuel and gas/oil fired boilers, all typical equipment listed for Utility Plant Operator I, and other auxiliary equipment such as: precipitators, pressure reducing valves and desuper heaters. Provide training and instructions to Utility Plant Operator I personnel. Make rounds of plant equipment. Record equipment readings onto paper log sheets and/or computer spreadsheets and files. Alert appropriate staff of changes needed to equipment. Complete site-specific training program for Utility Plant Operator II, within assigned time period. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of power plant equipment, in particular boiler and auxiliary systems. Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to maintain power plant equipment and building. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and the ability to comply with OSHA procedures.
