During my time I have gained a vast amount of experience with wireless networks, both installing and configuring wireless equipment. I have had exposure to Extreme, Ubiquiti, Aerohive & Mikrotik, all vendors that we configure equipment for our Wireless Networks. I am involved in surveying and designing wireless networks which is required before installing the equipment. Site surveys are required to help design your network as obstructions like buildings are trees play a massive part with wireless networks as line of sight is key when optimising your signal strength. With an on site survey you can gather together what assets you have available, in our case lampposts and from there you can then begin to build you network creating wireless point-to-point links between each lamppost and then finally back to your backhaul site, majority of the time this would be a building. Our most recent project was a small network of 16 Aerohive Access Points, my involvement in this included creating a detailed designer which assigned IP addresses and SSID's for the equipment used and then configuring the equipment and installing it onto the lampposts. -
