Nuclear Physics Phd Research Student
Working as part of CHARISSA collaboration.I have previously worked on attempting to extract the 2+ rotational excitation of the Hoyle state in carbon-12 using a newly developed method. I have also worked on R-Matrix analysis to describe 12C(4He,8Be)8Be and 12C(4He,12C*)4He data to investigated 4-alpha linear chain states or the lack thereof in oxygen-16. This also involved theory calculations including Hauser-Feshbach and Finite-Range DWBA to quantify direct and compound nucleus contributions.The basis for my PhD thesis is as part of an experiment with LNS INFN Catania. Data were collected using the CHIMERA+FARCOS detector systems to investigate high multiplicity alpha-particle decay of 28Si to investigate evidence of alpha-condensation in light nuclei (proceedings attached).Alongside research this role also involves Undergraduate teaching where I have taught Y2 C++ computing classes, Y2 Experimental Projects, Y3 Group Studies and MSc Nuclear Detection labs for the PTNR (Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors) and DWM (Decommissioning and Waste Management) masters courses.

Part-Time Tutor
Working with the Villiers Park Educational Trust, I provide a series of 5 day residential courses on "The Quantum Universe", "Exploration of Space" and "How the Universe Lives and Dies" throughout the year. These courses are given entirely by myself and one other tutor to Y12/13 students who are a mix of high achievers including those from low income backgrounds to develop an ardour for physics.
