About Jack Blake

Hello, I’m Jack. I’m extremely passionate about manufacturing and have been fortunate to have great opportunities to work with amazing companies, individuals, and on equally amazing and interesting projects. Since graduating with a first-class honour degree, I have spent my entire career in manufacturing, predominantly within the plastics industry. Starting as a design engineer, issuing (and often redoing) both 2D and 3D drawings for in-house CNC machinists, I quickly progressed into more customer-facing, design development (DFM), and broader business functions. Currently I am managing a team of engineers and looking to further progress down the engineering management path.I feel fortunate to have worked on countless projects, proposed and delivered on savings to businesses for millions of pounds and helped support and shape future engineers. I’d describe myself as a very detail-focused person with a key drive to always do and be better. I strive to make a positive impact and add value in anything that I do, taking a proactive approach, learning or doing anything required to achieve that goal.

Listed skills include Cad, Product Design, Model Making, Autodesk Software, and 14 others.

Design Team Leader

Current

Havant, England, United Kingdom

In my current role, I lead a team of mechanical engineers tasked with designing Engineered To Order (ETO) Chromatography equipment for the biopharmaceutical market. The environment is dynamic, characterized by a high volume of change in team composition, influenced in part by divestiture and conjoining of different products and business units. Despite these challenges, both my team and I maintain a strong passion for our work and the products we create. My primary focus lies in driving team performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, right-first-time metrics, and fostering development and succession planning within the team. By introducing new tools, refining processes, and leveraging automation and analysis software, I am dedicated to enhancing team efficiency, capability, and fostering collaboration within the broader business context.

Jun 2023 - Present

Process Engineer

Portsmouth, England, United Kingdom

Joining BioPure mid-Covid pandemic, I navigated the company through sourcing challenges, technical hurdles, and extended product lead times exceeding 1 year. During my tenure, BioPure underwent rapid expansion, increasing from 6 injection moulding machines to 32, alongside a substantial increase in headcount and relocation to a bespoke 11,000m² facility, approximately 8 times larger than the previous premise. As one of two members in the newly formed engineering department, I tackled daily challenges, prioritizing urgent issues while establishing essential processes in a dynamic environment. My responsibilities spanned a broad spectrum, encompassing initial design review, proposal documentation, capex management, project oversight, trial participation, and process instruction development. With a primary focus on enhancing production output, improving quality, and ensuring customer satisfaction, I spearheaded initiatives to introduce new equipment, refine processes, and optimize tooling efficiency. Additionally, I played a pivotal role in sourcing new equipment, implementing innovative processes, and establishing a metrology department to uphold stringent quality standards.Complementing my role, I undertook training with RJG to bolster my proficiency in supporting tooling FAT's and expanding my knowledge of tooling and processes. Leveraging this expertise, I successfully justified and operated Moldex3D simulation software, enabling proactive assessment of tooling function and early identification of potential issues, thereby mitigating risks and optimizing project outcomes.Throughout my tenure, I led the justification, management, and implementation of numerous projects, processes, and technologies, resulting in substantial cost savings for the company. I take pride in my integral contribution to BioPure's scale-up and the establishment of a world-class facility, leaving a lasting and meaningful impact on the business.
