I have recently completed the final year of my biomedical science degree at the University of Kent. Over the past 3 years I’ve developed analytical, data collection and problem-solving skills, as well as laboratory experience, which I have applied through my degree. I have recently completed a research based project adapting bacteria to metabolise carbon dioxide for the possible future use in carbon capturing processes. From this project and other laboratory experience, I have gained a number of skills such as the ability to perform PCR/ gel electrophoresis, DNA extraction, bacterial transformations and the use of laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers and microscopes. All carried out using aseptic techniques. It has also allowed me to gain experience in working with bacterial cultures. Furthermore, I’m competent in the use of bioinformatic programmes such as BLAST.Within my most recent role at Marks and Spencer’s I had been selected to hold a training position to assist new colleagues in their day-to-day tasks as well as being able to offer guidance to current workers
