The Application Management Services team are responsible for the support and development of integrated IT solutions to support the day-to-day clinical activities of the Trust, utilising several key 3rd party IT systems and some bespoke development. The team provide support services core Trust activity including:• Support and Development of key Trust IT systems including IHCS/PAS, Clinical Portal, InfoFlex, CRIS, PACS, Symphony, VitalPac, Nerve Centre, Winpath, CyberLab and WinDIP/Cito• Over 40 interfaces including PAS demographics feeds, patient registrations, document feeds to a shared repository and letters, reports and lab results to GP’s• Data feeds from a number of systems to the Clinical Portal to provide a consolidated patient record• Sending inpatient, outpatient and breast screening reminder texts and rules-based alerts for abnormal lab results and patient activity for managed cohorts of patients with long term conditions (e.g. diabetes, MS, stoma and heart failure)• User management and support for queries and issues for over 3,000 InfoFlex, and 3,000 Clinical Portal users and associated system.• System upgrades to ensure we maintain supported versions and security levelsExamples of recent developments include:• Development of the Covid appointment app supporting the Trust vaccination hub in booking and tracking appointments for staff and the wider Devon health community, and managing vaccine supplies to minimise wastage.• Management of emergency patient groups to enable tracking of patient cohorts throughout their journey irrespective of location to support day case surgery• Migration of the colposcopy module from a legacy system to infoFlex• Creation of electronic forms, replacing paper forms including SNAP form to support Stroke Service to capture and report national data set, referral forms for physiotherapy to enable patient referral tracking

After a very successful year and half as a Server Operation Specialist I was offered the position as a Server Infrastructure Specialist. This new role is a senior position within the team and I have a team member that reports to me with any issue they may have. This new role has given me the opportunity to lead on high-level projects within the department. As well as the new opportunities this position has given me, I’m still involved in managing, maintaining and implementing a multitude of services provided by the Torbay and South Devon IT Operations department. This includes administering and supporting over 400 virtual machines hosted on a vSphere 6.7 virtual environment running a mixture of Windows and Open Source operating systems.This year I finished a large project that I was leading. This was migrating all the GP sites that the South Devon Health Informatics Service manage onto out South Devon Domain and putting a new infrastructure in for them to use. My role as a Server Operations Specialist involves managing, maintaining and implementing a multitude of services provided by the Torbay and South Devon IT Operations department. This includes administering and supporting over 400 virtual machines hosted on a vSphere 6.7 virtual environment running a mixture of Windows and Open Source operating systems.The day-to-day tasks include managing the IT helpdesk, assisting first-line issues such as file share access, file restores and user account management when required including monitoring and actioning requests and issues reported though the Server Team mailbox and telephone. As well as this, the team are expected to fulfil an infrastructure support role in the team on rotation, requiring extensive knowledge of Microsoft Data Protection Manager and Quest vRanger to ensure that backups to both disk and tape completed successfully. Another part of the role includes administering patches to virtual machines in the pre-agreed maintenance windows for crucial live clinical systems.
