In my role, within a team of three, I edited the reports for GlobalData’s consumer sector. The reports were written by a team of analysts who then passed then to us. We delegated the work between the three of us, added it to a tracker, and completed it before the deadline. Throughout the process, we kept track of our progress and updated the tracking sheet accordingly.When editing a report, there are two aspects we focused on. Firstly, we considered language, content, and flow. This meant looking for common grammatical errors and ensuring the content was fit for purpose. Some reports needed to sound more professional than others, depending on the intended audience. We also rewrote sections to ensure the report was easy to read. Our second objective was to ensure the writer’s adherence to the in-house style guide. All analysts are sent a style guide, and we ensured that each report adhered to this document.

The Training Hub provides online and face to face courses to a number of sectors, including social care and adult care. Most of my role involved proofing PowerPoint documents. I edited these, in line with the company’s style guide, and rewrote any parts that needed rewriting – often the bulk of a presentation. These were all done to a strict deadline. My role also included writing and proofing a handbook for each course – in which I took the information from the PowerPoint and rewrote it in a PDF format. These were then sent to every learner who attended a course, online or face to face. As well as this, I edited the internal training materials for sales and admin staff, alongside social media posts. Working at The Training Hub meant working with a team almost every minute of every day. All my work took place within a process, so I had to make sure that I stuck to deadlines and communicated effectively with my colleagues. I also had to be open to feedback, to ensure that my work met the standard demanded by the customers.

This role was a lot more challenging than my previous role in the hospital, so I learnt to adapt to the heavier workload. It was down to me and a team to process every patient’s referral that was sent to the department. Managing time was critical as patients had to be seen by a doctor before a certain number of weeks. This means that the utmost attention had to be paid to every single patient, so no one was forgotten about. Because we dealt with urgent issues, as well as the more routine problems, I had to prioritise my workload effectively.

In this position I prepared notes for clinics in the Trauma and Orthopaedics department. This meant communicating with staff from all over the hospital to locate the notes in time for the clinic. If I failed the patient would not get seen so I had to work effectively and prioritise my workload. Another day to day task involved answering the phones and helping with queries from patients. I either dealt with it or passed them on to the right person who could help them.As well as this, on a weekly rotation with my colleagues, I woke on the reception of the Fracture Clinic. I did this once every three weeks, for a week at a time. This involved talking face to face with patients, greeting them and helping with however I could.
