I founded IBS, a biotechnology company specializing in development of cancer immuno-therapy. International Bio-Immune systems was first to produce a cancer vaccine that completed all three phases of human clinical trials. The results were published in Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal, demonstrating a survival rate for lung cancer patients approximately two times greater than the control arm and three times greater than the general population of lung cancer patients. Ariel Hollinshead, PhD Washington University, Washington DC was the invertor. The University owned the patent and assigned the marketing rights to me in return for my funding. As many medical industry insiders predicted, the FDA refused to approve the vaccine even though there were zero adverse side effects. Go figure!

I founded Municipal Bond Insurance Association (NYSE: MBI), the world's largest insurance guarantor of municipal and corporate debt securities.. I served as President and Chief Executive Officer from 1971 through 1986 and Vice-Chairman from 1986 to 1991. My team performed all credit research on the securities submitted. Those that we approved received automatic triple A ratings. We generated over one billion of insurance premiums with no claims and zero losses during my tenure as CEO. Successor management changed several underwriting policies and practices. Basic marketing strategy and principles were also changed. Over the ensuing years MBIA substantially reduced its premium rates, suffered many losses on the securities it guaranteed and eventually lost its "gold chip" stature and triple A ratings. I also founded the MBIA Invitational, a major annual golf, tennis and bike ride fundraiser for the benefit of Westchester ARC and Special Olympics. This event raised many millions and was supported by a strong cadre of happy volunteers who were shocked when MBIA terminated it's management sponsorship without a successor plan.
