Worked for the City of Ft. Lauderdale from Oct. 10,1957 until Sept 1,1987. 5 1/2 years as a Lifeguard (1957/1963) and 24 1/2 years as a Police Officer (1963/1987). Retired from FLPD 9/1/87 with the rank of Captain. I was one of the first scuba divers to be used by the FLPD, making several recoveries of bodies (ca. 1964/70). Started the Aviation Unit using my personal aircraft during the Sept. 1968 riots. Served in Communications as a Patrolman, Sgt., Lt. and Captain, and led the unit from 1980 to 1982. Wrote the first Communications Procedures Manual in 1972, (in response to an urgent need for standardized training due to 911 inception) This manual was adapted and used (with revisions) for more than 30 years, and portions (never credited) were used by APCO when they produced their manual.Retired in 1987 and spent the next 15 years traveling the USA and Canada with my wife in our Airstream, twice serving as President of our Local Airstream Unit.Ran three Orange Bowl National Rallies of approximately 150 Airstreams (300 people each). Developed and ran 5 Follow Me to Paradise, Rally/Caravans to the Ft. Lauderdale area and the Fla. Keys (100 units, 200 people each).Currently widowed and retired in Ft. Lauderdale, I serve as a member of the FLPD Retirees Assn. Board of Directors.
