DirectorCollard Data Management Ltd Sep 2003 - 2007Due to market forces I finished with CCB in September 2005 and became an independent consultant. My clients include Acxiom, CCB & Datalytics and I have also undertaken software development projects; In Jan 2007 I accepted a permanent position with Abacus Direct.

Data AnalystDatalytics/Clarityblue Jun 2006 - Dec 2006The role of Database Analyst was challenging, as it was quite a departure from my data management background. Originally a three month contract, I was invited to extend for a further three months. The role involved extracting marketing information from a Sysbase database on behalf of their client Sky, performing various sets of analysis and then presenting the learning's in documented format using Excel and Powerpoint. Being based on-site presented the further challenge of helping to manage the client supplier relationship. The role mainly involved the use of SQL and Excel pivot tables.
-
Contract AnalystAcxiom Sep 2003 - Jan 2006This role was to lead the Quality Assurance on the build of their main marketing database - Infobase LifeStyle Universe. Key to the role was working alongside the product Architect team based in Teddington and the development team based in London Bridge. The main tasks involved confirming that the modules being created by the developers were performing the tasks specified by the product architects. This mainly involved testing sample data, and comparing expected results with actual results. It also involved where possible, code replication to show that requirements were being correctly understood. By correcting errors and mis-interpretations we managed to ensure that the delivery dates were successfully met.Along with some internal applications, SAS v9 was the main tool used to check the sample files produced at each processing stage. Some of the modules were also fully replicated using SAS in order to confirm expected versus delivered results. I also developed some applications using FoxPro during this project. -
Data ManagerCoad Cole & Burey Jan 2001 - Sep 2003I joined CCB in July 2001 to help build a subscriptions program for The Times and Sunday Times newspapers. The project involved the building of a web enabled database in Sql Server which would service all customers who had taken out subscriptions. The database is also used to generate marketing initiatives using phone, web and direct mail. My role involved keeping the service running while the database was being built, using the raw data supplied by the previous supplier. I also helped in the design and testing of the new platform. In order to maintain the service I created a visual basic application to generate weekly selections and created parameter driven queries to process data held in Microsoft Access. I created procedures for dealing with new subscriptions, renewals, cancellations and queries. The input information was supplied daily using Excel spreadsheets all of which required processing and management.

Data ManagerConsumer Access Ltd Jan 1998 - Jan 2001Also now an Acxiom company. www.Consodata.co.uk)Head hunted from Claritas, I initially started working in file creation and data management for the UK data, I then took on the role of production manager before moving onto Oracle database administration for the largest marketing database in Europe (Jigsaw marketing database). During my time I introduced improved working practices to allow for greater efficiency and quality and I have created applications in Foxpro that are still in use today. As manager I was responsible for a team of four. While being very hands-on I still had to ensure that each individual was contributing to the team and provide coaching for continuous improvement. The role also involved contact with the sales division in order to improve efficiencies between departments.

Data ManagerAcxiom Company Jan 1994 - Jan 1998I joined CMT with a view to developing my data skills further by working with new tools/applications on different platforms. I quickly took over production of data supplies and adhoc list rental orders from database files - This work was being outsourced at the time which meant that I was able to save the company quite a bit on it's data processing budget. My processing skills and knowledge of the company's data lead to my involvement in projects for the supply of datasets for data analysis in the FMCG and data analysis departments also. I joined the data management team where I worked creating the first Spanish and Italian databases. I also took over management of the French database which was the largest project outside the UK business. During my stay with CMT/Calyx/Claritas I spent time in France & Holland giving training and production support using an in-house order production system (MOS. I left Claritas in Nov '98 just prior to the outsourcing of the data management function to Alchemetrics (www.Alchemetrics.co.uk) by which time I was using a database application called DataFlex on a UNIX platform.
