Led development and deployment of a micro-services system on AWS used by the utility to manage construction projects. - Introduced both cloud architecture and CI/CD to the utility via the design, development, and deployment of this system- Coordinated with their infosec and architecture teams to establish company best-practices for cloud deployments- Saved the utility 800 FTE hours of labor per week with the operational system

Worked with business leaders within the chain to perform experiments to validate proposed innovative uses of technology. Experiments conducted were:- Guest arrival and greeting system using Bluetooth technology to detect and identify participating guests as they arrived on property so that hotel staff can greet the guests by name. The experiment produced a double digit improvement in guest satisfaction.- Similar guest experience system but using facial recognition to identify guests for personalized greeting.- Hotel shuttle display system for airports to display predicted arrival times of shuttles. The system was prototyped at the a major airport hub.- A room upsell system to display 3D views of rooms to guests at check-in to entice them to upgrade to more expensive rooms.

Built a data collection system to help the bank understand the impact of in-branch signage.- Built custom UWB beacons using pre-production boards to record the location of customers in a branch with inches of resolution and a sub-second sample rate- Integrated Qi charging and relatively compact industrial designs to facilitate easy use of the UWB tags- Integrated tags with a cloud based data collection system- Helped the bank discover that most in-store signage was not noticed by customers

Led the redesign and rearchitecting of a realtime power grid management system. The initial design could not scale beyond a small number of circuits. The design was complicated by NERC imposed security mandates.- Designed a multi-cluster event-driven micro-services system that could span high-security and medium-security environments.- Designed scalable methods to query automated meter infrastructure to monitor voltage levels in realtime- Developed a roadmap for the development of the redesigned system

Led a rapid rescue project for a failing app project. The client’s efforts with an off-shore firm had produced an app that wasn’t functional and was significantly late. My team identified root causes of app defects and developed a remediation plan.- Analyzed mobile and service code bases- Identified root causes of defects and performance issues- Developed a remediation plan- Tracked the initial efforts by the off-shore team to remedy the problems.

Led a rapid rescue project to quickly fix a mobile app that could not support customer demand. The rescue had the constraint that the mobile app could not be modified, only the APIs used by the app.- Analyzed root causes of performance bottlenecks- Identified several performance and cost problems- Resolved the critical problems that were causing app failure, resulting in a 93% reduction in API response time.- Developed a roadmap for the company's internal teams to resolve remaining problems.

Acted as lead architect for a major rearchitecting and rebuild of the commission’s claims management and judiciary systems. The commission’s systems had become hopelessly outdated and unmanageable; we were tasked with modernizing systems, processes, and people.- Analyzed existing systems, processes and people- Developed a target architecture and roadmap- Worked with analysts to develop new all-digital processes providing full compliance with all applicable legislation- Recommended staff changes and some commission reorganization. Managed a team of developers producing security software to support the Philips line of cryptographic semiconductors. Also did some research and development in the area of network firewall implementations in hardware for which Philips has applied for patents 20040039940 and 20040092825.

Founded, sought and acquired startup funding for a venture to track fast moving objects within an enclosed space for the purpose of webcasting real time sports information to game consoles. The venture folded after pursuing and loosing a contract with NASCAR.

Provided systems architecture services in the area of large web and transaction processing system design consulting to iXL clients including First Union Bank (now Wachovia), and The Mayo Clinic.

Designed, developed, and managed all of the internal OLTP and data warehouse systems for company. Systems included online transaction processing systems, billing systems, manufacturing systems, and e-commerce systems. Held responsibility for a multi-million dollar budget for hardware, software, and services. Managed a team of 20+ developers, DBAs, and system administrators.
