As Head of Compliance, and a named Transport Manager, I manage the fleet team who ensure that TJ's comply with our Operators Licence and our fleet of HGVs are maintained to road safety standards. Whilst continuing to manage health & safety by carrying out regular site audits, workplace accident & near miss investigations, producing risk assessments, policies & procedures and delivering in-house training through physical and digital platforms on a regular basis. As a qualified TCM I ensure TJ's diverse portfolio of waste management sites remain compliant with their environmental permits, ensuring we comply with our waste duty of care obligations and provide assistance to the Environment Agency during audits and inspections. From February 2023 to March 2024, I undertook an additional role of Operations Manager at TJ Waste & Recycling’s Southampton waste transfer station. Within this additional role I supported the site foreman with the management of the day-to-day operations. Whilst giving the highest priority to Safety, Health and Environmental goals, I analysed operational efficiencies to maximise financial performance in line with business KPIs and budgets; and manage the performance and development of site personnel.As of March 2024, I become a named 8(1)(C) Quarry Manager, and began overseeing operations across TJ Transport’s portfolio of quarries and golf course construction sites.

As a qualified TCM I ensure TJ's diverse portfolio of waste management sites remain compliant with environmental permits ensuring we comply with our waste duty of care obligations and provide assistance to the Environment Agency during audits and inspections.I advise senior management on technical health, safety and environmental guidance and minor employment issues. And act as company liaison with our Solicitors when expert advice is required on technical areas of employment law.

Being responsible for health and safety on a day to day basis across two separate but interlinked companies; combining the transport, quarries, waste and recycling industries. Carrying out regular site audits, workplace accident & near miss investigations, producing risk assessments, policies & procedures and delivering in-house training on a regular basis. And day to day management of the cloud based compliance system, Engage, ensures that all employees and plant remain legally compliant.

In this role I worked closely with both the Transport and Waste Director, analysing company procedures and practices, producing a range of reports to help improve work flow, save on costs, motivate employees and increase profit margins. Using Microsoft Excel daily and creating my own reports, I influenced the way we tracked and monitored our drivers to help improve our safety and efficiency. I regularly led in-house projects that looked to push TJ's forward as a corporate brand that maintains a strong community link, looks after it's employees and recognizes it's responsibility toward looking after the environment. The role developed my commercial awareness, time management and business literacy. What initially began as a six month internship after six weeks I was offered the job on a part time basis when I returned to University and offered a full time position in the company upon graduation.

Working in the General Legal Advice Clinic, a free legal advice service run by the University, forming 40 credits on the final year of my law degree, I provided free confidential help and advice to the public on a range of legal areas including employment, family and succession law. Through this experience I developed a sophisticated understanding of the interaction between academic legal knowledge and providing practical legal advice. I also developed a range of practical legal skills, including interviewing, report writing, legal research, drafting, file management and effective communication. I was also the head of the social media team operating the Instagram and Twitter accounts and the author of a monthly legal blog that appeared on the clinic’s website.

Forming a 20 credit unit in my law degree I delivered a pro bono public legal education service with my fellow students to community groups in the Portsmouth area to enhance legal literacy and empower people. We delivered material on legal rights and responsibilities at the appropriate level for the target audience, further developing my appreciation of the fundamental professional and ethical principles of legal practice and demonstrating an awareness of the place of law in the community, whilst developing thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant procedural law.

I was required to produce daily reports for the time and attendance of cleaners we supplied to Superdrug and Halfords nationwide. Communicating daily via telephone and email to Client Liaison and Regional Managers regarding time and attendance issues with their cleaners. I was also the sole operative of the UK and Ireland time and attendance helpline for the cleaners and managers. This role required excellent communication skills, strong inter-personal skills, and good attention to detail. In this role, I also developed advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the time and attendance system called Timegate.For the initial 4 months of this role I commuted each weekday from Walton-on-Thames Surrey to Romford Essex. This journey involved boarding 6 different trains across London, totalling a 5 hour round trip every day; Monday-Friday. Then during the final 2 months I worked from home in Waterlooville Hampshire, using emails, conference calls and telephone calls as a mode of constant communication with the retail national office in Romford and the managers and cleaners nationwide.

Delivering online shopping to customers door steps, my role required strong inter-personal skills, a commitment to customer service, and an ability to think quickly and use my initiative when required. The job was heavily reliant on deadlines and a strict schedule, testing my time management skills and ability to work effectively within a team.

Zuko Sports is a specialised sports coaching company that aims to develop sports in schools and the local community. Teaching physical education to children aged 7-12 and running a variety of sporting after school clubs at Northern Parade Junior School in the city of Portsmouth.

This was such a valuable experience, despite not being offered a professional contract, I developed confidence and drive that has be influencial throughtout my life since. Living away from home and becoming independent was a great step forward, at the age of just sixteen. I loved every minute of my apprenticeship and I consider this one of my greatest life achievements. Throughout my two years I developed team work, motivational skills and discipline. As well as training every day I also undertook a BTEC level 3 Certificate in Sport Performance Excellence achieving a Double Distinction grade, completed an NVQ Level 3 in achieving Excellence in sport and passing a Level 2 FA coaching badge.
