As a care-giver for the renowned video-artist Bill Viola, I worked to ensure the maintenance and completion of daily routines involving the patient's quotidian needs, housework, stocking, and interactions with literature and art. This position combined the intuitive and logistical facilities necessary for any job in service/hospitality (i.e. capably decipher vague or incomplete request, physical awareness of environment) and a form of intellectual engagement with high art and literature in unconventional settings.

Under The Volcano Books is the only secondhand English bookstore specializing in anglophone literatures and criticism. I relocated to Mexico City from Los Angeles to operate and run the retail store, six out of seven days a week. This included all the duties associated with keeping a retail store together, accounting, inventory, etc. Drawing on my background in the humanities and comparative literature, I would offer guests access to a world of English language texts previously restricted by the confines of language and translation.

Lou Wine Shop is a critically acclaimed, pioneering natural and unusual wine shop in the Los Angeles area. As one of three active staff members, my role necessitated an intricate knowledge of inventory applicable in both retail and tasting room settings. My responsibilities included: frequently tasting with the wine-buyer and owner, staffing all types of tasting, wine-maker, and promotional events, along with all manner of exigent menial tasks that keep small business afloat.

Oakland, California

Premiere natural wine bar in Downtown Oakland featuring one of the most extensive BTG natural wine programs in the United States. featuring 30+ rotating red, white, amber, and naturally sparkling wines. A formative introduction to a vast array of wines made without chemical or mechanical intrusion, I began working in this role with limited responsibilities only to be promoted within the year and assigned supervision of the bar in the owner's absence. The bar offers full table service and showcases a retail selection of wine, requiring employees to navigate between different roles at a moment's notice.
