Undertook a Callaghan Innovation research project over the summer following my final year of study investigating ways of minimising the environmental impacts associated with road resurfacing projects

Beginning over the summer period at the end of my first year of university I worked as a labourer and machine operator for Earthworks and Paving, a roading contractor in Christchurch. I initially gained experience assisting with basing up kerbs and footpaths, laying stormwater pipes and operating loaders and rollers. I also gained a significant amount of experience using GPS equipment to set out kerb strings, sump positions and asbuilt the finished product as well as assisting in the work constructing these. I have continued to assist E&P with setting-out and asbuilting on a part-time basis while finishing my studies

As part of my engineering work experience, I worked for ENGCO over the summer between my 3rd and 4th-year of my degree. In this role, I was primarily carrying out shallow soil investigations, writing geotechnical reports, and carrying out excavation and pre-pour inspections.
