Hi! I'm Jack. I'm a double major in philosophy and German studies at Haverford College. From January to the beginning of March 2024, I worked as a legislative and constituent services intern for the Indiana House Democratic Caucus.As a humanities student, my skills consist mainly of analysis, interpretation, and writing. During the second semester of my freshman year, I crafted and defended an original philosophical thesis regarding the metaphysics of personal identity. This project, resulting in twenty pages of innovative argumentation, required a semester’s worth of research in the field, interpretation of prevalent arguments, and summarization. This included a thesis defense among classmates, masters and Ph.D. students, and the professor, where I was required to defend and explain my argumentation critically. Since then, I've applied the skills I learned in that rigorous setting to my work studying metaphysics and international law.My drive to learn about complex philosophical, legal, and social issues arises from my commitment to good-faith discussion and debate. Central to my belief system is the view that having an "opinion" fundamentally involves testing that opinion -- otherwise, it's just a belief. I've tested my own opinions and worldview since middle school as a debater. Today, I compete in the American Parley Debate Assocation for Haverford College.Finally, as a constituent and legislative services intern for the Indiana House Democratic Caucus, I worked across the caucus to get as much experience in as many specialities as possible. I completed casework for struggling constituents, wrote and researched talking points read on the House floor, authored press releases, and created professional handouts summarizing data analysis. In recognition for my work, I was selected as the sole caucus intern to be awarded the Verizon Intern Scholarship.
