Current and past projects:-CO2 Utilization via electrochemical and thermochemical routes-Mixed-alcohol synthesis from biomass derived syngas. Metal-sulfide catalyst development. Pilot-scale mixed-alcohol synthesis.-Kinetic (and microkinetic) modeling of catalytic systems. Coupling of kinetic and hydrodynamic models.-Catalyst development for upgrading of pyrolysis oils and vapors.-Analytical development (with method standardization and validation) relevant to pyrolysis products, including GC/MS, NMR, and acid titrations.-Electrochemical upgrading of pyrolysis oils and vapors.

Studied the electrochemical and photoelectrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide to form value-added products. Investigated catalytic coal gasification, including catalyst development for increased gasification rate with combined capture of carbon dioxide. Worked on the development of the electrical conductivity relaxation technique, used to determine transport and kinetic properties of solid oxide fuel cell cathode materials.

Carried out the fabrication and characterization of novel proton conducting polymer membranes, for use in low temperature fuel cells. Performed small angle xray scattering (SAXS) experiments at the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Lab to determine structure-property relationships for proton conducting polymers.

Performed catalysis research for the anode of direct proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Developed new catalyst materials and new architectures used for catalyst layers in fuel cell membrane-electrode-assemblies. Fuels used: methanol, dimethyl ether, hydroquinone, cyclohexane, methane. Built and maintained a direct PEM fuel cell test stand at the Colorado Fuel Cell Center. Phd advisor - Andy Herring.

During my time in graduate school I also spent some time doing research at the Electric & Hydrogen Technologies & Systems Center. While there I investigated the electrochemical properties of heteropoly acids via solution electrochemical experiments.

Undergraduate research assistant under Dr. John R. Scully. Performed corrosion testing on Al-Cu-Ni-Mg based metallic glasses. Acknowledged by Dr. Scully in the Columbia Space Shuttle Accident Report for accelerated corrosion testing on aged AA 2024.
