Philosophy TeacherThe Spire School (Ct) Aug 2014 - Aug 2018Stamford, CtPhilosophy Teacher, Grades 10-12The Spire School ◦ In 2014, established The Spire School's first elective Philosophy course, a robust survey that encompasses classical through contemporary philosophy. The survey course considered the ontology, epistemology, and ethical systems of many of the most impactful western philosophers. ◦ In the first semester, we explore Presocratics (Hesiod, Heraclitus, Parmenides), cover The Republic, Apology, Euthyphro, Phaedo, and Symposium, and examine Nichomachean Ethics and Metaphysics, as well as Democritus and Zeno. We finished the first semester with St. Thomas Aquinas and Descartes (as a primer for 17th century philosophy)◦ In the second semester, we begin with core 17th century philosophy: Spinoza, Locke, Hobbes, Leibniz. We progress to the 21st century, covering Hume, Rousseau, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, James, Wittgenstein, among many others in our fast-paced second semester.◦ In my final year at Spire (2018), I taught three sections of philosophy to 21 Sophomore through Senior students. It was among the most popular electives at Spire. -
English Language Arts TeacherThe Spire School (Ct) Aug 2013 - Aug 2018Stamford CtAP & Honors English Language Arts TeacherThe Spire School - Stamford, CT◦ Four years of AP Literature & Composition teaching experience. Syllabi have been approved by the College Board, texts from Chaucer and Milton to Conrad and Hemingway have been covered. Class sizes ranged from 3-8 students. Created dynamic syllabi to ensure students had a broad exposure to classic and contemporary literature in this college preparatory literature and composition course. ◦ From 2014-2018, taught the following courses: ELA Honors 10, 11, 12, ELA Standard 10,11,12, AP English Literature and Composition, and Senior Seminar (a college preparatory writing course). We also engaged in SAT and ACT prep. At its height, my caseload was 34 students.◦ Developed proprietary lesson plans (including worksheets, group projects, term papers, quizzes, and 18-20 page exams) for over 40 ELA texts, including works of fiction, non-fiction, and drama. I am happy to differentiate my lesson plans to the needs of my students, and I am confident in the efficacy of these lesson plans in a standard classroom or a 1:1 setting. The Spire School is a private school in Stamford, CT with a variety of educational options for high school students who struggle in a traditional high school setting. The Spire School, a NEASC and Connecticut State certified Special Education school, serves students with emotional and behavioral challenges. -
