Entertainment Partners (EP) provides payroll services for the feature, television and commercial production industry and owns 70% of payroll and 90% of residuals processing services. EP is transitioning to a digital business, embracing APIs and data science and protecting it all with a modern cloud security stack.I led the design and development of the identity and API management aspects of the new digital business platform:* Architected and implemented our solution using a modern cloud security stack and customer identity and access management to support a digital business initiative and platform with identity and API management at its core.* Conceived, designed and developed the Entertainment Partners API program and played an instrumental role in the transition to a microservice architecture featuring APIs as the primary architectural paradigm. * Reduced cost collapsing 25 identity silos to one and improved security posture by developing a centralized, uniform, highly scalable platform identity and access management strategy for our entire 25 application landscape using OpenID Connect and integrated API management.* Presented the above EP platform identity & API strategy I developed for to a Ping Identity Cloud Identity Summit 2017 conference. As a global leader in athletic footwear and sports apparel, Nike focuses on performance and strives to lead digital commerce and ancillary innovation with their core markets. I built Nike's capacity to embrace APIs and modernize their digital commerce environment. This allowed Nike to take advantage of a variety of business opportunities including data management for athletes and consumers onsite at Olympic events worldwide and other creative programs.In a dedicated consulting capacity, I built Nike's capacity to modernize and adopt updated service technology for their digital commerce environment:* Developed architectural road maps for 8 functional business capability areas (Search and Merchandising, Content Management, Order Capture, Order Management, Product Customization, Multi-Channel Commerce, Social Network based Commerce and Marketing and Analytics).* Sourced and evaluated options to fulfill functional business capabilities in Nike's e-commerce landscape (CRM, service and API platforms) to support REST development and align tooling and tech stack with development objectives* Worked with developers to introduce service technology and development paradigms, encouraging use of popular REST frameworks, conventions and proper use of HTTP verbs.* Evangelized a Strategic Reset based consistency between the Nike Digital Commerce, Digital Brand and Digital Sport organizations featuring common technology, infrastructure and services. Hudson's Bay Company is a popular Canadian department store and retailer descended from the East India Trading Company. The Bay needed to refactor their retail technology to purge all systems of Credit Card PANs to become PCI DSS compliant. Concurrently, the company wanted to make the switch from a monolithic enterprise application based architecture to modern service technology and related architectures.As a consultant, I led The Bay’s efforts to become PCI DSS compliant and built their capacity to leverage service technology for their retail operations:* Collaborated with another Cognizant Architect to deliver an extendable service framework to house both initial services to encrypt, store and provide audit-able access to customer credit card numbers (PANs) and future services related to The Bay's retail operations nationwide.* Provided detailed design for core CCAS services allowing access to a single corporate encrypted store for credit card numbers and aliases for those PANs.* Coached offshore team on best practices service implementation, providing general guidance on use of open source software and specific expertise on Spring Dependency Injection and ORM design and implementation to allow the use of Spring and Hibernate in the construction of the core CCAS services.* Provided design documentation, code and detailed guidance for an onsite / offshore development team unfamiliar with Spring and Hibernate to implement core CCAS services and a SOFEA based web application consuming the CCAS and other services.* Defined and validated open source portions of the IBM-centric tech stack and educated management on the cost effective use of open source software within their larger environment.* Contributed agile practices including Test Driven Development and iterative time-boxed sprints to the SDLC delivered to The Bay.

Global Health Grid was an Oncology centric research startup founded by a prominent pharmaceutical designer to explore the use of grid computing technology for the development of Oncology related drugs. The founder’s vision prefigured the API architecture emerging today and sought to create a technology platform to support Oncology and related pharmaceutical research.* Explored user experience and architectural models for providing user centric access to diverse grid based services for genetic Oncology research and treatment.* Created the illusion of Single Sign On by hacking URL based access to several Tomcat and JBoss Portal based web applications to allow management to evaluate user experience while moving seamlessly between a set of applications.* Researched integration scenarios for applications written in different languages, on different platforms and implemented via different technologies for use in a grid based service and application environment with functionality ranging from back office support to Oncology research tools and research management applications like Skip Garner's eBlast.* Designed and implemented messaging XML schema and integrations between several existing web applications for managing remittances and practice management for the grid platform.* Performed various development tasks to migrate all applications to a fully open source computing environment using no proprietary software, middleware or databases and deployed on XEN virtualized linux servers.* Set up an agile development process and integrated supporting toolset featuring subversion (SVN), a wiki, bug tracking, communication, documentation and project support infrastructure centered around free services by cvsdude.com.

Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance is a large insurance provider possessing a deeply heterogeneous computing environment featuring 200+ disparate systems. Ameriprise engaged Cognizant to help them transition to a service oriented architecture and to design and implement the vast array of integrations and data flows within their environment.* Collaborated with another Cognizant architect to deliver an extensible service framework based on Mule and the CXF web services toolkit capable of integrating the disparate systems in the Ameriprise environment.* Designed and built a data persistence layer for use by shared services in the Mule hosted framework.* Wrote high level and detailed design specifications and modeled various aspects of the service framework using UML and visio.

Gordon Food Service is a Michigan based food service supplier who was an early adopter of service technology. GFS engaged Cognizant to redesign and reimplement 2 applications to integrate with their service oriented architecture and continue to drive efficiency across their business operations.* Architected and designed a web and batch application based on food service Order Guide data, utilizing open source components, development strategy and tools.* Created an agile development process and customized it to fit within Gordon Food Service business processes.* Provided architecture, design and technical leadership for an on-site / offshore distributed development team, performed code reviews and provided tutorials and code for team members in the use of open source software and service design and development.* Trained offshore team in the design and use of open source frameworks like Spring and Hibernate and tools for Continuous Integration and Test Driven Development.* Designed and oversaw the implementation of a set of services, validated several security alternatives integrating legacy systems and the new web application.* Contributed to and negotiated parts of the data architecture and developed the domain model and significant portions of the service layer.* Managed software product through all phases of requirements gathering, use case development, high level and detailed design and several phases of development and delivery in a customized agile format.

Dox Software was a Bay Area startup providing an Electronic Medical Records system to orthopedic surgery practices in Northern California and Southern Oregon. The application managed medical records and integrated external documents indexed by MD5 hashes and was successfully deployed to a set of orthopedic surgery clinics.* Developed technology strategy, designed technical infrastructure, development process, tools and approach.* Created Electronic Medical Records product strategy, architecture, design and implementation.* Managed distributed development team* Performed 85% of the programming including database design, service layer and web front end.* Selected all components used at all layers of this J2EE software suite including Tomcat platform, Hibernate, POJO based domain model, XDoclet based attribute driven programming, Spring binding / dependency injection and Webwork Web Application Framework.* Saw product through all phases of design, development and first customer delivery.* Delivered well-received product launch to beta customers.
