My Bachelor of Laws was going to change the world. International law. That was the phrase. The two most motivational words I could think of as a 19 year old. I had just moved to Melbourne, was playing in bands and getting good marks whilst living from my parents’ generosity. I was unstoppable. There was nothing, however, that a quick reality check that I wasn’t going to become a famous lawyer/musician couldn’t do to change my ambitions. That, coupled with the necessity of working two hospitality jobs to support myself whilst studying full time, certainly changed my outlook.Gaining an understanding of the Australian legal system, as well as the different areas of practice I found stimulating, began the formation of my identity as an aspiring legal professional. I thrived learning about criminal law, civil procedure, equity and trusts, wills and estates and property law. I also began to realise that the most important and achievable impact I could make was more than likely in my own backyard.I finished my degree with a high distinction average and a resolve to immerse myself in the legal profession of my home state of Tasmania. Upon returning home, I would like to think that I have retained the same motivation and enthusiasm for learning that I left with. I am currently a legal assistant at Clarke & Gee Lawyers. Since my employment I have developed in commercial areas of practice; namely wills, estate administration and conveyancing. I am currently completing a Practical Legal Training course and am looking forward to admission to practice in August.

Ice Cream ScooperShort Batch Oct 2016 - Feb 2019Melbourne, AustraliaThe old adage about loving what you do and never working a day in your life was invented by an ice cream scooper. I am certain of it. Serving ice cream is the hospitality equivalent of being a rock star. Everybody loves ice cream and an ice cream cart never fails to be the highlight of someone's wedding, birthday, office party, soiree, fundraiser or reason-to-mark-a-special-occasion event. I worked for Short Batch as an ice cream scooper for the last two years of my Bachelor of Laws. Never before had I, and I probably won't again, work a job as fun as this. Short Batch is a specialist in gelato and event catering, and the different ways in which a cart could value add to someone's event was insightful to see. Show less -

During my four years at Wild Timor, I learnt how important a tool relationship building, both internally and externally, can be in developing organisational culture and fostering a sense of community around an organisation. It was rewarding to experience how fundamental an honest brand of customer service is to relationship building with customers. Wild Timor runs educational and development programs in Timor Leste. During my time there I experienced how willing our customers were to become a part of our journey in helping the Timorese. I would like to think that I was able to contribute significantly in building this sense of community through honest, friendly and relationship focussed customer service. Show less
