At Costain I was brought in to analyse, debug, and rebuild a legacy architecture and application used for managing message signs used in Critical infrastructure for managing motorway variable message board systems. I was involved in upgrading the system from legacy Java 6 to Java 21+ and focused initially on creating a test environment that would allow us to prove our application reliability with the existing legacy software that was exported directly from the client servers and needing to be recreated. Afterwards i moved on to building a base foundation by isolating the webapp and backend API and moving away from a WAR application to a JAR application using a modern version of spring boot and spring data allowing the existing DAO to continue operating under developed integration tests, and expanding on missing test cases for core functionality such. I then helped onboard the new software consultant who continued on my initial development framework. Once all cylinders were firing I began taking on the entire process of creating the Angular application from the ground up to manage all the interactions between the web interface and hardware managing the physical message boards. This was a continuous process in which I was collaborating and extending the existing API whilst also implementing all the flexibility required in the webapp.

Working closely with an external consultancy that was beginning to transition a product from MVP to stable, and production ready, no longer requiring assistance from the resource heavy and expensive consultancy. Entrenching myself into a world of graphs I began here by building a federated supergraph API from the ground up. Handling data for anything from housing specifications, to user sessions, as well as informing users of critical updates to the applications they were using. I extended a new component library built with tailwind that I championed bringing forward for flexibility in customising brand identity, which later expanded to being used in multiple differently purposed but clearly branded webapps with shared authentication look, feel, and flow, and assist with data ingestion, evaluating and calculating housing solutions, and customer organisation management and much more. After the departure of the consultancy, and reformation of teams, I found myself stepping up as an interim lead, assisting with gathering the requirements for the next phases to be implemented. I also took lead and implemented almost the entirety of the devops solution leading to fast, reliable and scalable environments with DR built in from the get go. This led to templates that released both new and existing products faster having been battle tested.- Cloud Architecture design and Implementation; GCP- Full Stack & Devops Development; React, Graphql, Terraform- Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD); Gitlab- Interim Lead to support Lead replacements; Product Management- Collaboration and Best Practices; Cloud design, Frameworks, Documentation, Disaster Recovery, OpenAI support, Real time data analytics

After successfully delivering on the previous project I was immediately re-engaged to deliver on another new public sector project, and delivering the same results while using the latest technologies with the recent introduction of Typescript while here. This was a ground up greenfield project that involved taking a dozen different funding systems used by the councils across the UK and creating a fast, modern, GDS compliant, scalable web platform that could handle varying and complex requirements each council individually needed, requiring large amounts of flexibility in the application processing for funding opportunities.- Full Stack Development; Typescript, React, Fastify, Graphql- Cloud Architecture design and Implementation; GCP- Driving insight into and implementation of Graph based APIs- Delivering GDS compliant government webapps suitable for impaired individual needs- Communication focused multi-functional made up of both client and consultancy experts in Devops, Design, Development, Test, Customer Experience, and Product Management onsite- Complying with strict data management, and security requirements, with public sector involvement

I actively contributed and assisted in architecting a large, and complex UK critical software project protecting children and vulnerable adults, migrating an old deprecated system from one organisation and putting it directly into the hands of the public sector client. Starting my consulting career, I played a key role in assisting in the development and deployment of an urgently required interim health insurance webapp, simplifying insurance application interfaces and commercial APIs; Reducing computational resource in calculating insurance premiums, storing and managing quotes with relevant data in a relational database, bringing modern approaches to web design and development table. Which helped reduce incurring large amounts of new technical debt, and lingering debt, and bugs significantly impacting customer experience. Bringing in a reduction in pressure on the team allowing them to deliver other projects and pieces of functionality previously blocked by time lost to firefighting and manual intervention.- Improved finance calculation performance, precision, and reliability;- Full Stack Development; Java, Spring, JSP, MySQL- Modernised the approach to web design with Figma- Re-enabling project progression, and releasing

Hungry for knowledge, and driven by my new found software passion. Experimenting with the latest and greatest tools, tech, and libraries, while also taking responsibility for developing new greenfield requirements which were used for a defence research project. I made an immediate impact by setting up CI pipeline for applications, leading to a full CD pipeline deployment with configuration, testing my knowledge by training recent graduate colleagues who were unfamiliar with the environment, leading to documentation reducing developer development setup time. I was also responsible for developing interconnected lightweight micro services, communicating with distributed noSQL clusters, using data enforcement policies on applications, and also configuring each of them through a CLI.
