  Jack Ledbetter has been photographing the Maine landscape with large format cameras since 1986. A native of Georgia, he spent a week visiting Christmas Cove as a child. The memory of a crisp, blue summer day stayed with him to adulthood, and when he began looking for a place to settle permanently, the scenic Maine coast was his immediate choice. He began exhibiting at the Wingspread Gallery in Northeast Harbor in 1986, and shortly thereafter established his own studio, which has developed a strong and loyal following over the years among both summer residents and the native population.Ledbetter photographs the old fashioned way, trekking over the Maine landscape with his large-format camera, bellows, and tripod. He develops and prints his own black and white work in his studio darkroom. His subjects include the Maine coast and islands as well as architecture and nudes. His work has been featured in numerous photo essays in Down East magazine, in his book Maine: The Coast and Islands (Rizzoli, 1989), and in many private collections.
