Profile bio

About Jack Logan

I am currently working as a Biomedical Engineer at Fearsome in Glasgow, UK. I have worked on multiple projects, largely in the drug delivery space, with my focus ranging from technical engineering design, prototyping and R&D to device usability and packaging solutions. I relish new challenges and enjoy working across multiple disciplines, as I aim to develop my effectiveness as an engineer across the medical device product development pathway, from concept to final product. More recent work includes the development of a microfluidic device to precisely deliver therapies into the body at high accuracy I hold an EngD in Medical Devices, from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, where I specialised in the development of a 3D bioprinting/extrusion platform for the creation of fine diameter, stem cell-based tissue filaments. I optimised and controlled various engineering parameters to reduce filament diameter from ~200 micron to sub-20 micron whilst retaining high cell viability. Through this work, I have gained experience in laboratory working, mechatronics, cell culture, various cell-based assays, process control, parameter optimisation, data analysis, presentation skills, planning and project management. I also hold an MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering, from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK. I have studied all fundamental aspects of Chemical Engineering on a degree fully accredited by the IChemE. Specialist areas include bioreactor engineering, enzyme technology and process intensification.

This ten-week project was in conjunction with Orkney Islands Council. The project remit was to analyse the various existing and future fuel type requirements of the Orkney Islands and accounting for surplus energy generation. I liased with various council members to obtain fuel storage figures in order to inform my suggestions for the development needs and end-uses of these fuel options. My main suggestions for future fuels included the use of LNG (liquefied natural gas) and hydrogen produced through the electrolysis of sea water.Key learning points included the need to be an effective communicator as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, translating scientific information into understandable concepts, being persistent and understanding the infrastructural needs of an island community
