My name's Jack. I like to get things to work. I’m a coder based originally out of Seattle, WA, currently looking for work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I move around a lot, so I need to be able to work flexible hours and remotely. Ever since building my first text-based RPG in Python for an intro coding class in high-school, I have loved coding, and the power it can give to the imagination, and its ability to do work. I’m not a genius. If you give me the longest palindromic substring problem I will most likely give you the brute force solution first, and maybe get to the expand-from-center solution after a while. Dynamic programming and recursion are not beyond me, I studied them in school, but in my experience it’s just not something I’m used to putting into practice day-to-day to solve problems, especially in a start-up environment where more focus is placed on “can you get this to work” than “how fast can this work”. My secret weapon, however, is that I'm stubborn. I will never stop trying to understand even the deepest concepts, and implement what I learn, and that includes learning better methods of solving computing problems.I also am an avid note-taker, and no problem or solution in my work goes un-recorded. In my free time I write new weird/slipstream novels and short stories, read, record music, study and speak Mandarin Chinese, and do yoga.
