About Jack Mason
I am fascinated by the relationship between people and the water environment. I believe that we must address the Climate Emergency which threatens to undermine our environment and will impact particularly on the poorest in society. Companies and other organisations must do much more in this area. I have an interest in addressing the carbon footprint of infrastructure, particularly addressing the high carbon footprint of concrete and steel (which together make up approximately 12% of global greenhouse gas emissions). My main areas of responsibilities in Binnies include supporting the delivery of our net zero commitment, flood risk appraisal and economic assessment.
Listed skills include Civil Engineering, Project Engineering, Construction, Concrete, and 6 others.

Associate Director - Net Zero & Circular Economy
CurrentWithin the Binnies Sustainability Team, I lead on the delivery of the company's net zero carbon commitments. I also lead on the integration of the principles of a circular economy within all the work that we do. This is a fascinating and challenging role which I am proud to be involved in. I am keen to understand more the work we already do in these areas, whilst helping to enable a step change in the way we work. Our partnerships with our clients provides the greatest opportunity to deliver real carbon reductions, which can only be achieved through a circular economy approach - where we think of everything as an asset.
Technical Director
CurrentI am a Technical Director responsible for work in the fields of water, river engineering, flood risk management and environmental management. I have particular responsibility for strategy and project appraisal in the field of flood risk management. I am experienced in integrating multiple objectives in option choice including social, environmental, safety, technical as well as economic considerations.I believe that we must address the Climate Emergency which threatens to undermine our environment and will impact particularly on the poorest in society. Companies and other organisations must do much more. In this field I work on climate change adaptation studies, for example identifying how flood management infrastructure should be built and delivered in an environment of increasing sea levels and fluvial flows within challenging economic and financial constraints. I have an interest in addressing the carbon footprint of infrastructure, particularly addressing the high carbon footprint of concrete and steel (which together make up approximately 12% of global greenhouse gas emissions).Economic appraisal and project finance are key areas of my work.I have worked on projects and strategies for a wide range of national and local government organisations, private companies and voluntary organisations. My overall approach is to try and simplify often complex technical problems with uncertainty into key decisions and technical questions to avoid unnecessary, expensive and often distracting analysis. I enjoy working with multiple technical disciplines, and integrating new technology into the appraisal process.
