Still active with more than 50 years experience in nuclear waste management. Retired from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Presently serving as a Scientific Advisor and consultant to Kurion. Pioneered the use of vitrification of radioactive waste into borosilicate glass. Led team at PNNL in the development and deployment of the liquid fed joule heated melter. Awarded the Wendell Weart Lifetime achievement award by Sandia National Labs and Waste Management Symposia in 2013. Supporting my community as a member of Kiwanis and the Salvation Army Advisory Board (past Chairman). A Veteran - served in the USAF and ANG as a commissioned officer and fighter interceptor pilot. ManagerBattelle Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Jul 1963 - May 1995Developed and directed the demonstration of technologies and systems to minimize or treat nuclear and hazardous waste streams and contaminated sites. These technologies included in situ heating, in situ vitrification, bioremediation, and melter vitrification. Several technologies emerged and achieved full-scale application. Provided technology support to DOE programs and projects at Hanford WA, West Valley NY and Savannah River SC. Transferred technologies to these locations, including the joule heated liquid-fed ceramic melter, and delivered the actual prototype melter to the West Valley Demonstration project. Managed and grew the waste management business at PNNL from a single section to a department, and finally the Waste Technology Center reporting directly to the Laboratory Director.

LieutenantWashington Air National Guard 1955 - 1963Spokane, Washington AreaJoined the ANG at Geiger Field in Spokane in 1955 . Qualified for USAF Flight School and became a pilot. These were cold war years and the Guard stood 5 minute runway alert in USAF facilities. Flew the F-89J Fighter Interceptor. While on runway alert planes were armed with Jenie MB-1 nuclear warhead rockets. Went to Gonzaga University also during this same period and graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Promoted to Captain while serving in the Air Force Reserves.
