Through a process of storytelling, yarning and conversation with elders and various knowledge keepers, Black White and Bluespace aims to demonstrate the relationship between water, the body and an animate universe, and show that our treatment of waterways is a primary indicator of communal social and emotional wellbeing. This is a process of recovery and regeneration, not just of the health of the waterways but the re-engagement with the songlines and stories that help us understand how water works holistically. By bringing these relationships to light we can inform the cultural protocols and processes that affect our built environment, helping to see architecture as a collective embodiment of the storytelling process. By working at the level of story, we are able to re-engineer our cultural patterns to align more with our custodial nature, and away from the extractive/destructive culture of contemporary western life. We must look at processes that will last thousands of years, not short term fixes, and that requires a change in our cultural practices and relationships. The project also aims to explore the relationship between language and water, and how the flow of water is not only like the flow of blood in the human body, but that the flow of sound and language within the body is also deeply connected to the flow of water in our river systems, and how language emerged from Country and is thus how we speak directly to it.
