As Auckland Regional Manager I am part of the Culham Engineering Senior Management team with a direct reporting line to the Managing Director. I have 7 direct reports with between 100-150 indirect reports at any one time. My role is client focused, with a strong emphasis on building and maintaining relationships. Starting the Auckland division from the ground up, my focus has been on recruiting and developing a team that is efficient, effective and has a culture of respect and accountability. This has been in conjunction with helping to deliver some of the highest profile construction projects in Auckland.

The NZICC will be the largest purpose-built convention centre in the country, capable of hosting conventions of around 3000 people. I was responsible for the Project Management of the Steel Structure, from the shop drawing process through Fabrication and Erection to sign-off of QA documentation of the 8500t primary structure.

As Engineering Manager I was responsible for developing strategies and providing framework and resources in the Engineering field to enable the project to meet its vision “to set the standard for project delivery that all future projects will aspire” and, in particular, to meet the main goal of providing engineering solutions and support to the construction and commissioning & start-up teams. Responsible for keeping a close liaison with external engineering organizations in order to smoothly transition the engineering support to the site. Development and communication of project goals into clear objectives and KPI’s for our team to deliver. As a full member of the project leadership team, contribute towards creating an environment that while promoting a “project team spirit” that team spirit doesn’t disenfranchise the project team of the wider refinery team. Through the quality team I held the responsibility for ensuring that the project complies with statutory and internal/external standards requirements and they are aligned with Refining NZ systems. Responsible for providing professional engineering expertise to ensure that the construction contractors’ teams have sufficient direction, information and access to project systems to deliver their commitments efficiently and effectively.

Responsible for the reliability and availability site wide to meet our business and customer objectives. Promote and implement reliability improvement strategies on site while managing a multi-disciplined team to provide maintenance and redesign strategies, optimization of critical operating plant, while minimizing maintenance costs. Responsible for the management, budget and schedule for the team which performs the Reliability, Integrity, and Process Safety(RIPS) Project which incorporates Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Risk Based Inspection(RBI), Safety Integrated Function(SIF), and Hazards and Effects Management(HEMP) studies on a company wide basis.

Facilitate and manage the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies on a company wide basis working with a multi-discipline team to provide maintenance and redesign strategies. Promote and implement reliability improvement strategies on site as part of the RIPS+ team. Review and optimize preventative maintenance routines using the site CMMS and assist in the development of the CMMS to optimize its impact upon reliability.

Responsible for delivering project engineering services ranging from Front End Engineering Development, through management of the detailed engineering and design, to procurement, construction, and HSE supervision to support for our client, the New Zealand Refining Co., Ltd. Duties include the estimation and creation of the manpower plan, budget and schedule for the Engineering Services Department on various capitol projects up to $1M NZD, as well as support of projects during the March 2009 shut down. Responsible for the monitoring and reporting of all financial data on project health. Other duties include the support of the Reliability & Integrity Department at NZRC to facilitate the Reliability Centered Maintenance(RCM) studies and implement preventative maintenance plans to improve plant availability.

Responsible for the creation of the manpower plan, budget and schedule for the telemetry and command antenna for the MSV Satellite program. Responsible for the monitoring and reporting of all financial data on project health. Led a team of three engineers through the design phase of the composite/metallic antenna structure. Worked system level issues in conjunction with other product teams. Daily management of core team and setting of weekly tasks and goals for the engineering team. Responsible for antenna product budget of $5.0M, including labor, material, and subcontract management.

Responsible for leading a cross functional team through the design, assembly, test, and integration of the composite/metallic antenna structure for the DirecTV program. Responsible for creation and monitoring of budget and schedule, design, analyses, test, and integration of the antenna structure. Daily management of core team and support personnel through delivery of the antenna to spacecraft. Responsible for antenna product budget of $9.0M, including labor, material, and subcontract management. Implemented value added tasks during the design phase which reduced schedule, increased efficiency, and allowed for substantial cost savings.

Led the assembly and integration of multiple projects for Antenna Products Research & Development. Responsible for budget, schedule, mechanical design, integration, and test of R&D antenna products. Managed cross functional teams and support personnel for all aspects of manufacture, assembly and test including internal and external resources. Performed assembly, demonstrations, and testing of products for internal and external customers.

Led the qualification of new materials and manufacturing processes for Active Array Sunshields while completing the design and manufacture of the antenna structure for the WGS program for the US Air Force. Responsible for budget, schedule, mechanical design, analyses, integration, and test of sunshield and antenna products. Manage teams and support personnel for all aspects of product design and manufacture including internal and external resources. Responsible for antenna operating budget of $1.5M, subcontract management, and budget for technical services. By exercising organizational planning, effective communication, and technical understanding, met a reduced schedule and financial objectives for multiple spacecraft. Interacted with customers to reduce cycle time of product. Visited vendor facilities to encourage teaming and remove technical barriers, which led to improved hardware delivery dates. Using financial techniques, monitored and actively maintained strict control over spending.

Team lead and engineering support of antenna manufacturing and integration activities. Supervise teams of technicians during antenna structure builds, range assemblies, and spacecraft integrations. Assign manpower, deploy work teams, and coordinate work flow across multiple projects while interfacing with several internal organizations. Real time engineering solutions for continuation of spacecraft work flow including documentation and disposition of process anomalies. Communicate daily status of projects with program engineers, spacecraft leaders, and product operations.

Responsible for design, assembly and integration of composite/metallic antenna structures for multiple spacecraft projects. Interact with other product teams and outside vendors to complete design, integration, and assembly tasks on budget and schedule.

Maintained mechanical systems to support the testing of the AEGIS Weapon System for the United States Navy. Organized and implemented incoming design changes to the test facility. Scheduled preventative maintenance and ordered necessary inventory for upkeep of support systems.
