The Mars In-Situ Resource Utilization (MOXIE) instrument onboard the Mars Perseverance Rover is designed to generate oxygen from the CO2 atmosphere with a solid oxide electrolysis unit. This unit operates at >30 Martian atmospheres and over 1000K. I investigated compressor options to meet this requirement optimizing for power and mass within a sample.

I worked on a paraffin wax surface tension mechanism for collecting lunar regolith. This system holds the promise of (electrically and mechanically) passive operation. I was responsible for the design of the laboratory experiment. I worked on paraffin and beeswax hybrid rocket engine static testing and micro-gravity wax casting experiments. Wax hybrid.

• Started only student-run high school rocket team in the country that developed experimental solid rocket motors, rivaling top college rocket teams
• Partnered HSRPL with the Reaction Research Society, an educational non-profit, for sponsorship, facilities and safety/legal compliance
• Sourced sponsorships from Aerojet Rocketdyne, Mil Spec Industries, AFRL, several local machine shops, and dozens of suppliers
• Designed (Autodesk), simulated, fabricated, and tested: -Four solid composite M-class characterization motors (total impulse 1,400 lbf-s-2,300 lbf-s) with the final test operating at 237.5 seconds Isp, 98% of the Space.
• Led system-wide development in intensive three-month program to scratch build a 5” sounding rocket simulated for 50,000’ altitude and Mach 3 maximum velocity: launch attempt was unsuccessful, but project proved.
