I have performed with Piping Services Scotland since high school, both as a solo bagpiper, and with the act Saltire Beat on guitar, bass guitar, drums and bagpipes. During this time, I have performed at events ranging from intimate weddings to large functions. This involves a considerable amount of quick thinking, problem solving, and client handling skills. I also undertake administrative duties, and engage in sales events such as wedding fairs, assisting customers in selecting the correct wedding package. I am currently still working with Piping Services Scotland, on a flexible basis.

My role as a Life Science Logistics Coordinator at Biocair consisted of two equally important halves. The first encompassed client communication. From simple, caring, & time-sensitive, updates on shipment status - providing well needed assurance to the customers and scientists that their packages were in safe hands; to complex regulatory and logistical advice on how to navigate the often nonsensical world of international customs and shipping. The second half of my position involved the 'behind the scenes' coordination and management of numerous ongoing shipments at various stages of the booking process simultaneously. This required a strong sense of organisation and time management - skills I enjoyed exercising and developing during my time here. The workload in this position followed a 'feast and famine' pattern, meaning task prioritisation quickly became your key to success.

During my time at the University of Basel, I was employed to maintain Macrostomum cultures. This involved utilizing my wet lab and molecular biology skills developed during my studies. Particularly, observing standard laboratory protocol, preparing the culture medium, culturing algae, pipetting, microscopy, analysing samples, and climate chamber management. This often involved making informed decisions on how to treat the cultures under my control, dependent on the health of individual specimens. This experience concluded due to my return to the UK.

I enjoyed my time at the Piper’s Tryst hotel, largely due to the flexibility required for the role. My responsibilities included waiting of restaurant guests, events setup, hotel upkeep, and cleaning duties. I personally ensured customer comfort and upheld safety and sanitation standards. A large part of the role was working within a team with other members of staff to ensure events such as weddings and functions ran smoothly. This position concluded due to the commencement of my MSc degree at the University of Basel.
