My name is Jack Poncy, and I am a student at SMU. I am pursuing a General Business and Political Science double major and, last semester, and I completed my Chinese Mandarin minor. I am a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and hold a seat on the Kai board. I deal with disputes between brothers and help with mental health around the fraternity.This semester, I moved to a house off-campus with a garage, so I finally started a rock band in which I play lead guitar. The five of us in the band practice twice a week, and we want to start playing gigs by November. Aside from school and the band, I love to lift weights, play basketball, and read. I love to learn, problem-solve, and lead. I was senior class president in high school and the president of a music club that I started. I also captained my high school crew team for two years. This past summer, I worked as a counselor at a sports camp in Maine, where I was elected out of 36 counselors to lead one of the two teams in the annual color war. I loved this job because I shared my passion for watersports by teaching campers how to wakeboard and waterski. The six previous summers, I worked as a farmhand at our family farm in Pennsylvania.
