Costa Coffee – Winchester (Winnall) – drive through and counter service I joined the Costa team with no experience and quickly learned the Costa barista skills. The Winnall branch opens 0530 to 2100, serving approx. 450 customers each day, with a concentration in the early mornings through to 1300. There is a team of 4-6 of us on each shift. My work patterns are varied – sometime 0500 to 1400, other time 1400 to 2100. This is a pressure environment of customer service and customer flow through, where being organised and coordinated with the team are skills I have quickly mastered. I help train new starters. A Team Leader position was offered to me, but I declined as I had committed to Australia in early 2024. I have enjoyed being part of a team and have learnt a lot about the fast-moving food/beverage business and dealing with a variety of customers.

Running Horse – Littleton (local foodie focused village pub) – kitchen porter, sometime assistance chef and occasional front of house staff I joined the village pub team just as we came out of Covid. Hours are varied. This is popular foodie pub with main plates c. £25.00 pp serving a floor space of c. 120 covers that is open 0800 to 2300. Again, a pressure environment that is both customer service lead/ facing and working as part of the kitchen team. I enjoyed again being part of a team and helping in both the kitchen and front of house.

Jude’s Ice Cream – van driver I applied for a short-term delivery boy job. On my first day I was driving a long wheelbase delivery van from Hampshire to Essex and back on my own (with no sat nav or driving tech). This job was fun, and I learnt a lot about driving and on-time deliveries.  I left the job to join Costa for better hours, working conditions and more interaction with customers.

At the rugby club I was working many events from match days to weddings. This allowed me to develop not only my people skills but at also my bar and communication skills in a fast passed environment.
