I am a recent graduate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Biomaterials with a focus on Building Residential Structures. During my year-long experience as Production Manager for the Wood Enterprise Institute at Virginia Tech, I successfully oversaw and guided a team of people through designing, prototyping, managing resources for, manufacturing, marketing, selling, and shipping our team’s unique and personalized product. I effectively balanced multiple tasks, such as assigning jobs aligned with team members’ capabilities, creating and adhering to timelines, resolving setbacks, and working with stakeholders to ensure they received the product they wanted at the highest level of quality. I prioritized the importance of teamwork by maintaining an open line of communication and assisting my colleagues in accomplishing their tasks, which allowed us to work collectively to complete our goals. While working at Wagner Lumber, I collaborated with employees in every branch of the company. I received training in the various departments for as little as a day to as long as two weeks. My ability to adapt quickly and my enthusiasm for continuous learning allowed me to be useful and productive in each of my roles. As a manager trainee, I utilized my time with Wagner to brainstorm how each aspect of the company could run more smoothly and efficiently. Additionally, I observed how integral each team member was, from the workers grading lumber to the managers implementing improvements in the complex process of lumber manufacturing. This allowed me to gain a deeper appreciation for each worker, with everyone I met being a true asset to the company. During my internship experiences, I was given the opportunity to work in two different industry environments; one where I focused on design and production; the other where I learned all facets of the day-to-day operations of a global lumber business.
