Directing my past IT experience into Geographical Information Systems. One term to go.

Worked with SAS software developers, developing installation and user manuals on data warehouse analysis, data management, data conversion techniques, data preparation and staging (Extraction, Transformation and Load), and metadata administration guides.Wrote HTML Web based help pages in collaboration with MIS developers; developed and presented the system training material for SAS’ in-house Human Resources System.Traveled throughout Europe to SAS country offices, writing project case studies on diverse Data Warehousing, Data Mining, and Campaign Management projects. Case studies were challenging because the material was nearly always new and diverse, often requiring understanding complex networking and data conversion terminology, and the time to interview project developers, assemble, then absorb and edit the material, limited.

As part of a team, developed SAS’ European-wide Information Center. In a mixed PC and UNIX environment, established guidelines, published via Web pages, used by over 35 SAS country offices, informing users on common problems not requiring intervention from the Information Center’s staff. Subject matter ranged from simple "how to connect and map a drive" to configuring FTP utility programs.Primary contact for Windows training and user problem resolution. Conducted training classes for users (MS Word, mail system, FTP, etc.). Performed technical and advisory roles at yearly SAS Forum International (SFI) conference events.

Primary resource for installing hardware and software and resolving problems for more than 120 PCs and 10 Macintoshes, including peripherals. Installed and configured hardware. Established and documented software configuration standards and procedures to mitigate reacting to recurring problems.Performed technical role in every SAS Europe User’s Group (SEUGI) conference since 1993. Designed staging network. As part of a team, setup, configured and tested PCs used in the conference. Presented a paper on IT guidelines to the SAS’ European IT Manager’s Conference.

Managed, debugged and modified software release processes. Built and released all APD software class libraries, containing GUI libraries and utilities built upon throughout the company. Met every software release objective and schedule. The releases were crucial to the success of Mentor Graphics' second generation of software. Oversaw network and software installations at Design Automation Conference(s) held in Orlando, Florida and San Francisco. Supervised APDs Marketing Department design and set up of a mixed-node network consisting of Apollo, H/P, and Sun workstations.

Controlled engineering’s HP/Apollo network of 260 workstations. Initiated and coordinated corrective action. Provided technical leadership and direction to support technicians. Coordinated network requests between project groups at Mentor Graphics. Negotiated use of hardware from other departments to optimize the backup and restore capability of schedule-critical development software.In the very demanding development environment of this major software company, also planned, organized, and directed, hardware moves, operating system and network updates. Planned and developed department objectives, budgets, and personnel.

O/S software installation and maintenance, point-of-contact for user requests and problem resolution. Pursued network faults to machine level, initiating hardware calls. Directed hardware relocation. Performed complex printer and plotter maintenance. Designed and implemented new procedures to optimize restoration of current development software by creating special, separately scheduled set of backups dedicated to daily changes only.
