REC Expansion FEED Project China ExpansionProcess Director for the SlimRod, Etching and Poly Lab sections of the FEED package for REC Silicon JV Expansion Project in Yulin, China. These areas of the plant included specialized Polysilicon processing steps and laboratory support for polysilicon production. Work included managing and directing a process team for preparation of HMB’s, PFD’s, MSD’s, Process Equipment Specifications, PSV calculations and Datasheets and P&ID development for the SlimRod, Etching and Poly Lab sections. Provided guidance and assistance for development of Plot Plan and equipment arrangements. Consistent and diligent interface and communication was required with client since the existing technology at their US plant was the basis for the FEED design.

Process Director for the Alcohol Preparation and Separation sections of the Sasol proprietary Ziegler Alcohol Expansion Unit FEED package. This portion of the unit includes a large number of trayed and packed bed columns and several reactors along with support equipment. Scope included modeling the existing plant and reconciling with plant operating data in addition to typical FEED activities and development of deliverables.Provided mentoring, coaching and technical review for work performed by process team for preparation of FEED package. Work included preparation of HMB’s, PFD’s, MSD’s, Process Equipment Specifications, PSV calculations and Datasheets and P&ID development for the Alcohols production and purification units. Provided guidance and assistance for development of design templates and procedures for PSV calculations. Most of the process team were less experienced engineers and required patient, consistent mentoring and coaching to achieve positive results.

Santos upstream gas field development, pipeline and LNG plant in Queensland, Australia.Project Manager in China responsible for management and coordination of multiple large scale purchase orders for Gas Processing Modules for the Santos LNG project. Multiple large modules and skids were fabricated in China and shipped to the job site in Queensland. Modules consisted of 138 Wellhead Gas Separator Modules, four (4) Fuel Gas Modules, eight (8) Gas Filter Separator Modules and twelve (12) Emergency Diesel Generator Skids. Work consisted of management of vendor fabrication, monitoring of status and schedules, identification of critical issues and working with the vendors for resolution and troubleshooting of critical issues and coordinating with Fluor engineering in Manila and Brisbane to resolve issues and keep the orders on track.

30,000 MTA Grass roots Polysilicon Complex in Inner Mongolia, China for LDK SiliconProject Manager for completion of Preliminary Engineering Package for a grass roots 30,000 MTA polysilicon plant at a site in Inner Mongolia. Work included development of Scope of Facilities, Plot Plan, HMB’s, Block Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, Equipment Lists and Class V preliminary TIC estimate. A Value Engineering Study was also conducted to eliminate or modify items in the project scope that offer limited CAPEX and OPEX value to the project. The value engineering study and workshops used a systematic approach to analyze the project scope and design to identify cost saving opportunities that increase project value without sacrificing safety, schedule or quality. The preliminary BFD's, PFD's, equipment list, plot plan and Class V estimate were revised using the Value Engineering items indicated for implementation resulting in an reduction in TIC of 12%.

Organized, managed and directed project team for execution of engineering, procurement and construction management for two(2) hydrochlorination plants to support 5,000 MTA polysilicon each and a 2,000 MTA silane gas plant. Work consisted of supervising and directing process team for development of FEED and detailed engineering from Technology Provider’s Basic Engineering Packages. HAZOP analyses were completed to insure process safety. Special considerations were given for appropriate selection and procurement of special alloys for critical equipment and materials. Silane gas plant included facilities for storage and loading of silane. Design included PDS 3D models for all areas of the plants. Reviews of the PDS models were done and included members from engineering, construction and operations.

Commissioning/Technical Support Director: Managed engineering team for planning and support of commissioning of LDK’s 15,000 mta polysilicon plant in Xinyu, China. Managed and coordinated the efforts between the engineering team, construction turnover rmanager, project controls and client team to develop the construction turnover packages which werte used to define commissioning activities and development of project schedules and commissioning/startup schedules. Worked with client and construction for development of pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures and checklists. Provided engineeringl support and direction to LDK operations team for commissioning and startup of utility units, CVD reactors, converters, off gas recovery, TCS purification and synthesis. Directed the commissioning engineering team in providing support to LDK during initial plant operation, troubleshooting and process improvement.

Conducted licensor clarification meetings and prepared economic, technical and commercial data for evaluation and selection of Licensor. Conducted preliminary evaluation of OSBL facilities for PTA complex and assisted in preparation of master plan. Prepared Licensor Evaluation Report for client to finalize selection of Licensor. Prepared Engineer’s Review and Report of PET process technology package prepared by client for new, innovative PET technology developed by client.

Specific duties included site infrastructure and utility studies, process and engineering studies for development of site layout and process arrangement, environmental permitting requirements and schedules, development of site master plan, assistance with development of modularization studies and labor productivity differentials for the various sites and development of Project Master Baseline Schedules. Work included site visits in the USA, Canada and overseas, risk assessments, SWOT analysis, estimation of site cost impact differentials and preparation of final EPC site Due Diligence Investigation report.

Worked on management appointed teams for the discovery, development, commercialization, and implementation of new and improved Polyester Intermediates technology for Eastman Chemical Company. Main technologies include PTA, CHDM, DMT and others. Objectives of the team were to identify and define new technologies using R&D and engineering resources and develop economic data for the evaluation of the technology for possible commercialization.

Commissioning/Startup Manager:Served as commissioning/startup adviser to Hualian Sunshine Petrochemical in Shaoxing, China for construction turnover, pre-commissioning, commissioning and startup of a major PTA facility. Coordinated the activities between process licensor. BEP contractor and Chinese Design Institute and participated in design reviews with Chinese Design Institute including PDS 3D model reviews. Provided planning and coordination for pre-commissioning activities including monitoring of schedule and systems turnover. Directed the breakdown of the construction activities into systems to expedite the project completion and more easily manage the project. Monitored and helped develop the construction turnover schedule including the organization and management of the punch list system. Directed the development of pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance test and startup procedures and documents, and preparation of the startup schedule and startup team organization. Worked with the client Safety Manager to develop safety procedures and evacuation plans. Helped manage and assist in all aspects of construction planning, pre-commissioning, commissioning and startup through the performance test completion.
