The Hatfield Resident Fellowship is a partnership between Portland State University and public sector employers based in Oregon (including nonprofit organizations and federal, state, and local government agencies) in order to attract recent public affairs graduates to work in the Pacific Northwest region.During my fellowship, I worked with Bonneville's Division of Fish & Wildlife to improve their decision-making process. As part of this, I primarily created data visualizations and dashboards to analyze financial and performance data for projects intended to lessen the impact of energy production on fish and wildlife. I also assisted with process mapping for the current state of their various processes.

From August 2019 to December 2019, I helped promote the then-new undergraduate Public Policy program by analyzing publications from peer universities.From January 2020 to July 2021, I worked with the Graduate School's Office of Funding, Finance & Analytics as their office assistant. I primarily worked to facilitate the application and selection process for graduate fellowships by selecting faculty committee members, screening applications from graduate students, and ensuring smooth operation for the process. I also worked to resolve any tuition funding issues discovered by graduate students with fellowships or assistantships. Later, I assisted with the Graduate School's financial reconciliation process and was responsible for creating and receiving purchase orders for required items and submitting payments for any independent contractors working with the Graduate School or any reimbursements for purchases made by Graduate School employees.

I worked as an intern with the city's Division of Environmental Quality & Public Works. Primarily, I ran city-wide collection drives for hard-to-recycle items, including campaign yard signs and holiday lights (and related electronic items). This required us to create partnerships with local businesses to provide drop-off locations and to increase citizen awareness of this program. Additionally, I helped run Gobble Grease Toss, an annual collection drive for used cooking grease, oil, and fat. I also selected and implemented a new inventory management system to organize department items and to simplify the process for ordering new items. Other activities included preparing information packets on city environmental resources to distribute to new city residents, preparing materials for classroom presentations on environmentalism, and helping to facilitate Reforest the Bluegrass, an annual city event to plant Kentucky-native trees on city-owned properties.

I supervised the GM Backroom and Pricing teams, encompassing a team of eleven employees. My primary responsibilities included ensuring all corporately-mandated price changes and sales were properly executed throughout the store and maintaining in-stock conditions and backroom organization for the General Merchandise departments. I also owned the physical inventory process for General Merchandise and was the primary liaison with the Inventory crew, corporate employees responsible for store inventories throughout Kentucky and Ohio.I continued with my responsibilities helping to support other stores, running the orientation process, and serving as Store-Director-In-Charge when needed.

I was responsible for hiring and training new cashiers, cash office employees, and store-level IT employees. As part of this, I was also responsible for ensuring adequate coverage for customer service areas to ensure that all customers were assisted as quickly as possible. I typically supervised approximately 40 employees at any given time.As part of this role, I continued to be sent to both grand-opening and struggling stores to train management counterparts and employees at other stores in Kentucky, Indiana, and Wisconsin. I also became the leader of my store's orientation process for all new employees, which involved classroom instruction in basic store policies and procedures and continuing support after start of work. Finally, I was trained as a Store-Director-In-Charge, responsible for running the store in the absence of the Store Director.
