About Jack Warren
Jack Warren has over 30 years of professional experience as an historian, writer, editor, and senior executive for cultural organizations.He is editor-in-chief of The American Crisis, a journal of history and commentary, and one of the founders of the Foundation of American Ideals, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to promoting understanding and appreciation of American history and the ideals of independence, liberty, equality, natural and civil rights, and responsible citizenship that are the basis of American national identity. The foundation works to ensure that these ideals are reflected in public policy, taught in our schools, and honored in the daily life of the American people. The foundation also advocates the conservation of the rich cultural and natural resources of the United States.He served for eighteen years (2004-2022) as executive director of The Society of the Cincinnati, the nation's oldest private patriotic organization, and was the founding director of the American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati, the organization's mission-focused arm. He has extensive experience in non-profit administration, fundraising, and the creation and management of museum, library, and educational programs.Previously he served on the faculty of the University of Virginia where he was an editor of The Papers of George Washington, a long-term editorial project awarded the National Humanities Medal. He has been a board member and managing director of the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation and has worked closely with numerous historical organizations and museums to advance their missions. He has been involved, in various capacities, with most of the museums and historic sites associated with George Washington. including the Barbados National Trust, with which he worked to secure the preservation of the house where Washington lived during his visit to that island. He is an advocate of battlefield preservation and a supporter of and occasional collaborator with the American Battlefield Trust.He is the author of The Presidency of George Washington (2000), America's First Veterans (2020), and most recently Freedom: The Enduring Importance of the American Revolution (2023), in addition to numerous essays, including a chapter in David Rubenstein's The American Story: Conversations with Master Historians (2019), based on a presentation he made to members of the United States Congress.He lectures extensively on the American Revolution, George Washington, and the central ideas of American history for audiences across the U.S. and abroad.

The Society of the Cincinnati was founded in 1783 by the officers of the Continental Army to perpetuate the memory and ideals of the American Revolution. As executive director Jack Warren led the creation of the the American Revolution Institute, which works to fulfill the historic mission of the Society through education, museum, and library programs. He served the Society and the American Revolution Institute as chief executive, building their financial resources and shaping their programs. As chief public spokesman for the organization he worked with educators to encourage schools to devote more time and attention to the American Revolution and to American history more generally and advocated for popular understanding and appreciation of the achievements of the American Revolution and the ideals that have defined our national experience.
