Completed Doctorate in Organizational Leadership at Gardner Webb University. My consultancy project is the transformation of the Boys & Girls Club Board into four functioning committees that are driving change in the organization. Over the past 30 months we have gone from a Board of 31 people waiting to be told what to do to four functioning committees developing goals and objectives three years out. As of November 2020, we have four operating units at the Club serving more than 140 kids a day -- compared to June 2016 with one unit serving about 80 kids a day. Our budget is has grown to over $450,000 using grants and funding sources to provide support for serving more kids every day. Robert Frost's poem The Road Less Traveled, has been an inspiration to me all of my life. The last stanza continues to define my journey. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

Chief Volunteer OfficerCleveland Community College As An Adjunct Professor Jan 2001 - PresentUsThe COVID 19 Virus has changed the way we serve kids at the Boys & Girls Club. We are working to stay connected using virtual material similar to what the schools are doing. Since March 2020, we are serving about 150 children over a week's time. With the different cohorts in the schools we have different groups on Monday and Tuesday than what we have on Thursday and Friday. As children were spending more time at home because of virtual teaching, we opened our doors for kids from 8am to 6pm. Casar Elementary in Upper Cleveland County asked that we open a site at their school. We are serving 30+ kids a day at this site. Now that schools are returning to "normal" attendance, we have returned to the After School programs that we have offered with Power Hour being the first hour. With kids having Chrombooks and a possibility of no internet when they get home, our goal is to get their homework done using our WiFi at the Club and tutors and assistants to help them be successful in the classroom. We are planning for the Summer with the Jack & Ruth Schweppe Summer Day Camps at three sites -- the Main Club, Teen Center, and Casar. Check our FB page for more information. Our organization from the executive director to the janitor has learned that the new normal is learning to adapt to the health standards, keeping social distancing, cleaning, cleaning, and cleaning to keep the kids safe. Thanks to gifts from the Bailey Endowment and the Shelby Rotary Club, we were able to convert a classroom into an exercise room with interactive computerized games and a climbing wall. The room will be named the Tony Izzi Exercise Room in memory and honor of Tony who served 62 years on our Board of Directors.Later this year, we will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of the Main Clubhouse which was built in the 1970's. -
PresidentNorth Carolina Lutherna Men In Mission Apr 2018 - PresentApril 2019, I took a leap of faith to be elected President of NC Lutheran Men In Mission. March 6, 2021 we celebrated the 98th annual Gathering of LMIM groups from across the state. Over the year I have learned that their are men in every congregation who are giving of themselves to help others. Our goal for 2021 will be to reconnect physically with each congregation. We want to promote the idea of mentoring the next generation of leaders to keep this organization moving toward being bold followers of Christ.Part of my exposure to Lutheran Men was to attend a One Year to Live (OYTL) retreat. This is a 2 1/2 day weekend retreat that helps one to focus on what is most important in my life. I got to know Hal Derrick and George Sachno better -- both are officers of NC LMM. In 2020 George passed away and I miss him every day. He was such a giving supportive friend. If you are interested in the OYTL, used the link below to go to the NC LMM FB page and send us a message.
