Environmental Adviser
The Green Business Partnership is a not for profit organisation that provides a range of environmental services for businesses throughout Scotland. The duties of an advisor were varied and interesting, providing new challenges on a daily basis.• Business Advice: I provided advice, including auditing, to a wide range of businesses throughout Scotland on a range of environmental issues including energy efficiency, waste management, water efficiency, renewable energy, green marketing and carbon footprinting.• Project management: I co-managed an initiative with the City of Edinburgh Council to help set up and run the One Stop Shop programme which was a central point for Edinburgh businesses to access environmental advice. • Mentoring: Mentoring students who are taking part in The Environmental Placement Programme on projects which can range from bio-fuel feasibility studies, ISO 14001 projects to benchmarking local government consumption.• Research: I produced a core template containing a host of information for use by advisers to speed up the time taken to prepare reports. In order to maintain the template I had to ensure that I was constantly updating my knowledge and was aware of new products, legislation, technology and financial incentives. There were also a range of spreadsheets to allow other advisors to quickly and correctly perform calculations.• Presenting: I have experience of presenting in front of a wide range of people including MSPs, businesses and school students. • Teaching: part of the business experience programme I ran workshops, presented and gave individual tuition to students aged 11-16.• Teamwork: I feel I work well as part of a team, in my previous role I was part of a network of advisers that kept each other up to date.• Events Facilitator: I have assisted at events run by the Green Business Partnership and facilitated at partner organisation events. Assisting attendees in workshops to develop understanding and complete exercises.
