In the final of my graduate placements I worked in the A400M Wing assembly facility on site in Filton, Bristol. I was a member of the industrial maintenance team which improved my understanding of 'shop floor' activities and improved my PM skills as I used them in a totally different environment. I led several improvement projects to reduce costs, minimise risk and improve safety standards.

I spent 5 months working in the Landing Gear cross-programme management team. During this time I largely worked with their quality department which gave me strong insight into quality management. I led a project to map, define and detail their quality management system (QMS) and supported the creation of an MFT. Defining the QMS gave me an understanding of industry standards, quality assurance, quality control, quality improvement and the balance with time and cost.

Avonmouth, Bristol & Newquay, Cornwall.

I joined the Bloodhound Project as an out of business placement from Airbus. My responsibilities included ensuring critical parts conformed to specification prior to static and dynamic testing of the car. Additionally, I supported the resourcing of the team, managed the part modification process, produced a brief for use by the emergency services and helped ensure parts/tools were delivered on time to our test site in Newquay, Cornwall.Once testing was underway I led the management of issues, was responsible for tracking timings, which led to me supporting the development of the testing schedule, and I managed the capture and organisation of on car footage. This footage was used by main stream media including Channel 4, ITV, Wired and the BBC. Additionally I was part of the team supporting on the taxiway/runway with the car to ensure successful testing and successful public runs. For my second placement I managed the commercial relationship between Airbus and a major supplier of wing components. This meant I was responsible for commercial and contractual negotiations related to parts supplied by the supplier for Airbus A320, A330, A380 and A400M programmes. I had daily communication with the supplier to discuss material enablement, modifications, CAPEX requests and also support discussions between the supplier and procurement delivery teams to ensure they delivered to time, cost and quality.

Whilst in the A330 NEO wing team I supported the development of a new project, my role involved managing resource and financial forecasting. This work required communicating with several engineering teams, producing a statement of work, managing cost spreadsheets and providing information for management reviews.

Second half of my placement was spent working as a Project Delivery Officer in the Gas Distribution Innovation team. My work largely revolved around the management of my own cost benefits analysis project. This involved collecting site data, meeting with suppliers and contractors to obtain forecasts and the production of documentation to support future analysis. The outcome was a methodology of benefit analysis which was successfully trialled with two of the team's largest projects.

Whilst on a year in industry I worked as a Process Analyst in the Gas Distribution Replace & Extend Process Team. During this time I supported a project manager in a large process change project. My responsibilities included updating KPIs, planning meetings, assisting with process mapping and the production of reporting documentation.
