I am the technical lead directly responsible for a suite of spatial audio content creation software tools. I have overseen the development of these tools from scratch. In addition to substantial programming contributions, I set up the entire software development life cycle: codebase creation and organisation, version control, automated building and unit testing, product deployment, QA and beta testing regime, and support infrastructure.Other responsibilities include: software architecture design, project management of feature planning and versioning, mentoring and managing the workload of half a dozen engineers working on the software, GUI design, and driving cross-team collaboration initiatives.

This role entailed leading all virtual instrument projects and being in charge of the entire plug-in codebase; it was the most senior role in the company for audio plug-in development and matters involving DSP. My responsibilities included: maintaining the automated plug-in build servers, keeping the platform-specific deployment of the plug-in code for Mac and Windows up to date, extending the MAS specification and SDK (MOTU's native plug-in format), adding support for MPE and MIDI 2.0.

I designed DSP algorithms for use in MOTU’s DAW, Digital Performer, including algorithms for musical onset detection and tempo extraction. I led the rework of the audio editing window of the DAW, the Waveform window. I added many new features (some relating to new possibilities arising from the improved DSP algorithms I wrote, and an assortment of other desirable additions such as a Spectrogram view) whilst enhancing the UI and unifying the UX across the Waveform window and Digital Performer as a whole.

In this role I coded numerous novel effect and instrument plug-ins. The approach to the creation of the plug-ins was a combination of mathematically analysing and modelling existing analog circuitry, along with designing custom digital functionality. In addition to the audio processing, I took pride in developing unique and artistic UI that was both advanced in function yet intuitive and simple to use. I also ported existing plug-ins that were only building as MAS to build as AU, VST2 and VST3.
