Redscan is a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) and provides 24/7 monitoring of networks, infrastructure, websites etc for security alerts. As a Cyber Security Engineer is it my responsibility to help architect and implement the security and monitoring solutions for our customers. As each customer has different requirements, it means that it is important to provide the right solution to meet their security needs.

Nexor is a Cyber Security company that specialises in Cross-Domain Gateway solutions. In this role, I work more closely with customers. Part of this is pre-sales work which involved working out what the customer’s needs are and working with them to design a solution based on their requirements from a technical perspective. More of the work is at customer sites implementing and delivering a solution, that had already been designed and developed, into the customer’s environment. I also train the customer on how to use and maintain the system.Other responsibilities of the role include taking ownership of one of our third-party products, making sure we have the latest software and making sure my knowledge of the products is up to date to enable the business to continue to sell and support the product. I also spend a bit of time researching other products to enable me to provide the customer with the best possible solution. More recently looking into cloud-based solutions.

This job required me to gain a more in-depth knowledge, firstly, about the products that Nexor offer, and secondly, the security aspects to consider when deploying a solution. As a graduate, I had to learn fast and think on my feet as I was placed on a project within my first week of starting the job. This began with building the physical hardware, cabling up the solution in-house and installing the appliance software ready for testing.I worked on a variety of projects with an array of different customers ranging from small privatebusinesses to large government organisations, with various input throughout.

Evans Cycles is currently the largest cycle retailer in the UK. This job required me to have a wide range of knowledge about the products that the company sells so as to help the customers in the best way I can. Duties included making sure that customers were greeted once they entered the store and helping with any issues or questions they may have. Also helping with general jobs around the store.I worked in both the Nottingham and the Manchester Deansgate stores. Skills that I have gained throughout this job are customer relations, dealing with customers in certain situations, knowing when to approach customers when they need help.
