This included ensuring the smooth operation of its data collection platform in the field, Taroworks, and analysing the accumulated data to help inform decisions within the company. Santiago Province, Chile

Worked with an internationally experienced team for a range of clients within the Chilean renewable energy industry. This provided an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of Latin American energy markets as well as to develop important language skills.Key accomplishments include:Conducting a research project investigating soiling losses in the Atacama Desert region in Northern Chile, what impact this had on photovoltaic (PV) plant performance and how best to measure and address these issues. This project was in collaboration with the University of Santiago and sponsored by CORFO.Carrying out PV energy assessments for a range of clients. This ranged from preliminary energy assessments for new projects up to post-construction evaluations for operating arrays.Authoring a report providing an overview of existing cleaning technologies for commercial PV arrays, and how these technologies might be applied within the Chilean market.Giving a presentation at the Solar Asset Management LATAM conference in Santiago about PV plant performance in the Atacama Desert.

Swansea, United Kingdom

Working with Swansea University's Marine Energy Research Group on the EU-funded MARIBE project. This project investigated the potential for offshore multi-purpose platforms that will maximize the potential for Blue Growth and Blue Economy development in four separate sea basins; the Mediterranean Sea, the Baltic Sea, the North Atlantic and the Caribbean.During this time, refurbished and reconstructed a test rig for a tidal turbine blade that would be used for research at the university in the future.

Worked as part of the Nuclear New Build Team, spending a year working with various clients on a diverse range of projects;Authored a Basis-of-Design document for the anchorage of safety-critical emergency cabinets at Torness power station and a reinforcement survey methodology for Sizewell B, both as a part of EDF’s Japanese Earthquake Response programme.Conducted a structural assessment of an accidental overpressure load for the ITER project in France.Worked closely with Horizon Nuclear Power to develop a set of readiness review criteria for Nuclear Site Licence application.Worked on a range of offshore wind farm projects including Dudgeon, Greater Gabbard and North Hoyle. These included project costing and checking structural calculations.Entered the MERIT competition as Construction Manager for a virtual company as part of an Atkins team.

Bristol, Reino Unido

Completed a 9-week placement in the Mechanical Team for the Nuclear Generation Business.Assigned to a team developing a set of emergency response guidelines that have since been put into effect across EDF’s nuclear fleet.Accompanied an Atkins investigative team during a site visit to Heysham 1 power station, recording relevant information for the team leader.Authored a technical note for Atkins’ internal reference library examining the potential for alternative buffer store cooling methods in the event of normal cooling system failure.
