- Defended the City and its employees in federal court against Section 1983 and related state law claims- Handled numerous cases at various stages of litigation; wrote and edited pleadings, motions, and responses; conducted depositions and managed discovery; performed a variety of other pre- and post-trial work- Sat third chair on a federal jury trial in February 2015; involved in all aspects of trial preparation and execution; examined several witnesses in court; resulted in favorable verdict on all counts

- PEER SUPERVISOR (2013-2014): Oversaw approximately 20 cases handled by a total of 10 first- and second-year law students. As a supervisor, I conferred with them about the progress of their cases, helped formulate strategy, assisted with the writing of briefs and formal communication, and prepared the student attorneys for hearings. Additionally, I participated in the student-led initiative for the organization to become a University of Michigan Law clinic, which was eventually successful and the organization is becoming an official clinic as of Fall 2014.- OFFICE COORDINATOR (2013-2014): Worked part-time in a role similar to a combination law clerk and paralegal. My duties included helping the attorney with the research, writing, and editing of briefs, conducting client intake, organizing the office schedule, preparing the attorney for hearings, and drafting a variety of official documents in the representation of clients.- VOLUNTEER (2012-2014): Continuously handled 2-3 cases throughout my time at Michigan Law. For these clients, I conducted research, wrote briefs, contacted government offices, and appeared on behalf of clients in front of Administrative Law Judges and the Wayne County Circuit Court.

- Responsible for fifteen stateless clients who sought citizenship and protection from unlawful arrest.- Wrote letters of demand, client affidavits, and applications for litigation; advocated for clients in phone calls and meetings with government officials; conducted client interviews; researched international birth registration and nationality law; and assisted attorneys in court, at detention centers, and at government offices.

- Researched, wrote, and edited bench memos used by the Judge and his law clerk which are often used in opinions, which I helped structure and edit.- Reviewed appellate briefs and trial court records, verified citations, and edited grammar and structure of other writings to be published.

Accumulated and organized the results of Australian federal court decisions over the past decade as part of a project examining the role partisan politics plays in judicial outcomes. Separately, I conducted research on the effects of Citizens United v. FEC for an article being written about religious interest groups and lobbying.

Worked full-time in the downtown office of the 35-attorney suburban law firm while taking law classes at night. I served as an immediate and direct link to the courthouses, city hall and the county building. My duties involved performing legal research, writing memoranda, and assisting the several downtown attorneys perform their morning motion calls. Other daily responsibilities included filing paperwork, spindling motions, getting routine motions granted, and performing tax case research at the County Clerk’s Office.

Researched the political and procedural implications of immigration policy reform, and how a plan for citizens’ involvement in the decision-making process would affect the legitimacy of immigration law and public perception of migrant workers in America.
