TurnOut powers intersectional movements for mutual aid and liberation. We work to ensure communities have the knowledge, tools, and support we need to create the world we want to live in. This includes coalition-building, upskilling in skills for effective movement work, and providing structures for grassroots organizations to maximize their stability and impact. A core part of this work is providing a shared staffing structure for smaller organizations to access part-time staff support around administration, fundraising, and other core needs without having to pay for a full-time employee or expensive contractors or consultants.

We are a non-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community through a variety of programs, events, and advocacy work. We have worked tirelessly to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility, and to create a more inclusive and equitable world for all. TurnOut mobilizes communities to power queer and trans movements. TurnOut supports thousands of volunteers and board members working with more than 250 LGBTQ+ nonprofits across the state of California.KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:Founded and built the organization from an idea into a successful fully-staffed statewide organization with an annual budget of $400,000.Led development and implementation of TurnOut's volunteer program, which has recruited more than 8,000 volunteers across California to support more than 250 nonprofits serving queer and trans communities within the state and beyond.Led development and implementation of TurnOut's suite of Queer Board programs: Queer Board Match (a community-wide event that connects participating nonprofits with an average of 7 new board candidates per event); and Queer Board Catalyst (a 6-week training program that increases nonprofit board members’ self-reported level of preparedness for Board service from an average of 3.4/10 to 7.8/10).Secured funded partnerships with government agencies, including the California Governor's Office to expand TurnOut's programs statewide and the County of Santa Clara to develop and implement a local program to connect volunteers with isolated queer and trans elders.Wrote successful grants to secure funding from the Roddenberry Foundation, Horizons Foundation, Californians for All, and others. Created a novel funding model to support the organization's growth by providing contracted volunteer management services to the largest LGBTQ+ events in the state, including SF Pride, LA Pride, and Folsom Street Fair.Secured sponsorships from and provided trainings for major corporations, including Google, Gap, Deloitte, Yelp, Genentech, Robinhood, Merrill-Lynch, and Splunk.Built and managed TurnOut's internal administrative apparatus, including handling all HR matters, bookkeeping, and financial tracking and reports.

The IHP Social Entrepreneurship program seeks to foster a critical, cross-cultural and collaborative learning experience that deepens students’ understanding of the challenges and creative opportunities that social entrepreneurship holds for addressing pressing local and global issues.KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTSServed as the inaugural San Francisco Lead for the first year of the IHP Social Entrepreneurship program. The San Francisco program was part of a four-country cross-context comparative study that included sites in Brazil, Uganda, and India. Designed local experiential learning program that created opportunities for students to visit local social enterprises, meet with leaders pushing the field forward, and speak with funders that fuel the social entrepreneurship movement.

Now known as MPact Global Action for Gay Men’s Health and Rights, the Global Forum on MSM & HIV (MSMGF) was founded in 2006 by an international group of activists who were concerned about the disproportionate HIV burden being shouldered by gay and bisexual men. The organization works to promote the health and human rights of gay and bisexual men worldwide, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries. KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTSLed the development and management of the organization’s global network of over 2,000 LGBTQ+ service providers across more than 140 countries. Developed and managed a novel web-based multilingual platform for international collaboration, allowing grassroots advocates to work together across Arabic-, Chinese-, English-, French-, Portuguese-, Russian-, and Spanish-speaking countries. Directed the MSMGF’s global communications and media outreach, which achieved significant and consistent coverage in major media outlets across all continents.

Served on the Board of BioBarrier, Inc, a biotech startup focused on thin-film membranes for surgical gloves and other medical equipment.

APLA Health restores dignity and trust within underserved communities by providing world-class LGBTQ+ empowering healthcare, HIV specialty care, food, housing and other essential support services. As lead of a brand-new project to provide technical support to grassroots queer and trans organizations in China, I developed and implemented programs to combat the spread of HIV among hard-to-reach men who have sex with men (MSM) in China, maximizing APLA’s strengths and responding to local needs. KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTSConducted on-the-ground needs assessment of Chinese community-based organizations (CBOs) working with MSM, as well as SWOT analysis of APLA’s potential in the region.Developed strategic plan for APLA in China, focused on partnership with local civil society.Secured grant funding to support APLA’s collaborative programming in China.Partnered with AIDS Relief Fund for China and 30 Chinese CBOs to design and roll out Heart Talk, a psychosocial support program for MSM in China, in 20 target cities.Conducted CBO trainings, site visits, and meetings with local officials in 20 target cities.

Queer Comrades Beijing is a weekly video podcast that provides a forum for wide-ranging and light-hearted discussions on the latest issues affecting LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual) life in China. In each episode, the members of the Chinese LGBT community are invited to share their unique views and intimate stories.KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTSPartnered with Xiaogang Wei and Steven Jiang to launch China’s first independent online gay television show broadcast on major Chinese video-sharing websites.
